Why The Negro Is Called Coon.
Many years ago, when super¬
stition held greater sway than
now, and the influences of the oc
euU and weird were more potent,
a cunning negro slave had ac¬
quired the reputation of possess¬
ing a familiar spirit and ot being
able to perform many uncanny
mysteries. His fellow slaves held
him in great awe, and even his
master grew to believe in his
powers. This finally led to a wa¬
ger, in which the greater pait of
his master’s fortune was staked
on the negroes divine ability. A
barrel was placed on the lawn and
a live coon placed under the bar¬
rel. Then the negro was sent ior
and told to inform the crowd what
was under the barrel. He tried
in various ways to escape ex¬
posure, but without success.
Realising that he was cornered,
he leaned on the barrel dejected¬
ly and remarked, “well you’ve
got dis old coon at last.” Where¬
upon a great shout applauded
what was considered “Sambo’s
remarkable astuteness, and his
reputation was forever firmly es¬
tablished.—Ex.
No More Suffering.
If you are troubled with indigestion
get a bottle of Kodol Dyspepsia Cure and
see how quickly it will cure you. Geo.
A. Thomson, of Spencer, la., says:
“Have had Dyspepsia for twenty years.
My case was almost hopeless. Kodol
Dyspepsia Cure was recommended and
I used a few bottles of it and it is the
only tiling that has relieved me. Would
not. be without it. Have doctored with
local physicians and also at Chicago,
and even went to Norway with hopes of
getting some relief, but Kodol Dyspep¬
sia Cure is the only remedy that lias
done me any good, and I heartily recom¬
mend it. Every person suffering with
Indisgestion or Dyspepsia should use it. ”

RECTOR OF ST. LUKE’S,
Ashburnham, Ontario, Testifies
to the Good Qualities of Cham¬
berlain’s Cough Remedy.
Ashbpkyham, Out., April 18, 1 !) 03.—
I think that it is only right that I should
tell you what a wonderful effect Cham¬
berlain’s Cough Remedy has produced.
The day before Easter I was so distress¬
ed with a cold and cough that I did not
think to be able to take any duties the
next day, as my voice was almost chok¬
ed by the cough. The same day I re¬
ceived an order from you for a bottle of
your Cough Remedy. I at once procur¬
ed a sample bottle, and took about three
doses of the medicine. To my great re¬
lief the congh and cold had completely
disappeared and I was able to preach
three times on Easter Day. I know that
this rapid and effective cure was due to
your Cough Remedy. I make this testi¬
monial without solicitation, being thank¬
ful to have found such a God-sent rem¬
edy. Respectfully yours,
E. A. Layoff.ldt, M. A.,
Rector of St. Lake’s Church.

Dublin Times: An important
step was taken by the ladies of
our city on last evening when
they met at the library and or¬
ganized themselves into a charity
association, to be known as “The
Flower Mission of Dublin,” an
organization with the purpose of
caring for the work strictly hu¬
manitarian, and has no denom¬
inational creeds. The pastors of
the city will welcome the organ¬
ization, as a great help to them in
solving a very difficult problem.
