held in Gainesville, June 28-25,
inclusive. It will be the Four¬
teenth Annual Convention of the
B. Y. I’. U., and will bring to¬
gether a large number of workers
and a more brilliant array of
speakers than has marked any of
the previous State Conventions.
Mr. Jno. E. Howell, of Moul¬

Veterans in Birmingham.
The confederate veterans have
been in se ssion ib ^irmingham
this week. The city has been
royal in its entertainment of the
loved sons of the confederacy.
On account of the recent death
of their commander Stephen D.
Lee it becomes necessary to elect
a new commander and much in¬
terest was manifested in the se¬
lection of a successor. The honor
may fall upon the shoulders of per¬
haps the most beloved veteran of
the cival war, Gen. Clement
Evans of Georgia.
Gen. Evans is himself getting
old and feeble but he sits his
horse erect and virile and is a
picturesque cl a-r cter in any
'
parade 1 of confederate veterans.
