on Monday last, at which Mr. Yancey appeared and de
livered a powerful speech in review of Mr. H Ilia and coarse
in Congress—proving him not to be “ the man for the

Hor. J-E. Belser, in a letter to Dr. Powell of Macon,
avows his continu ‘d devotion to the opinions long enter
tained on all the great queations of politics—des res not to
be a candidate for Governor—but does not positively say
he would decline the office if conferred upon hint. The

riotism, he will serve if elected! . I
Disastrous Fisc. —Two hundred and fifty thousand 1
dollars worth of property was consumed by fire at Water- 1
town, N. Y. on the 15th inat. one-half of which was cov
ered by insurance. Three Bauks, three Printing Offices,
two Hotels and 30 Stores were included in the destruction.
