Disnor Doane's BankmttOy.—lt now turns out. after
all the white-washing which the N. J. Episcopal Omi

addition to his shamefal expenditure of thousands of dol

‘embezzled the funds of the Diocese to the tune of six or
■even thousand dollars, and appropriated the same to bis
esn private use ! On being confronted with the fact, lie
‘plead guilty to the substitution of his own private bonds
for the bonds of debtors, and to selling the latter for ready
money, but pledged his faith to refund the cash.

fMNIIE GRAND JURORS of the Second Panne) j
-■- for the present Term of the Court, congratulate
themselves that they have but few items to which j
they invite the attention of the public.
The first Pannel have taken under consideration !
the condition of the Jail, the Books of the Clerks,
of the different Courts, and reported accordingly.
Mr. John W. Edwards brought in a statement of
his tax list for 18 48, in which we discover an error on 1
the part of the State. Whereupon we recommend
that the Comptroller General allow the said John W.
Edwards the sum of three hundred and forty-two dul- j
lars and thirty-seven cents, for hia insolvent list.— !
W c also allow the further sunt of forty-four dollars and >
thirty-seven cents in a hill of error committed by the i
Tax Receiver, and give our certificate in Itis favor to
the Comptroller of the State, in cctnplian ce with the
law made and provided for iu such cases.
We earnestly appeal to the next Legislature tore-!
lien- us from the onerous duty retired of us as j
Grand Jurors under the law exempting firemen and
mouthers of the different Military Corps from said du- !
ty, falling,as it does iu this county, upon comparative- ;
!y few citizens. |
We also beg leave to suggest to the city authori
ties the propriety of erecting a Guard House, apart
j from the Court House, this Jury having noticed that j
| t Ire safety of the Court House is now greatly endan
gered by fire in consequence of tire combustibles now ,
iu snd about the room used for such purposes.
We would most respectfully call the attention of,
| the proper autliorities to an old negro man, Simon, I
: who seems to be going at large without any protec- j
■ lion or means of support, and in a suffering condition, j
; In taking leave of his Honor, Judge Alexander, we |
j tender him our thanks for his courtesy to this body. ;
