Area Death Notices
Luia Trotter
Luia Mae Trotter, 86, of Homer,
died Tuesday, December 25, 2007,
at Athens Regional Medical Center
in Athens.
She was born on October 19, 1921,
in Banks County, the daughter of
the late Noah Lee and Sarah Wade
Brock. She was a homemaker and
was Presbyterian. Mrs. Trotter was
preceded in death by her husband,
John Clarence Trotter, Jr.
Survivors include sons, Terry
Trotter and Oneal Trotter, both
of Homer; six grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, December 27, in the cha
pel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Rev. Bill Ford officiating.
Burial was in Homer Presbyterian
Church Cemetery in Homer.

Monteen Wilson
Monteen Skelton Wilson, 91, of
Lula, died Thursday, December 27,
2007, at Habersham County Medical
Center, following an extended ill
ness.
Born in White County on January
6, 1916, she was the daughter of the
late Loy and Eva Carpenter Skelton.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed
making handmade pottery, was a
member of Enon Baptist Church,
and attended Shiloh Baptist Church
of Gainesville. Mrs. Wilson was
preceded in death by her husband,
H.A. Wilson; daughter, Jane Stewart;
son, Jackie Wilson; and brothers,
Ronald, Ray, and L.A. Skelton.
Survivors include a daughter,
Doris Hill, Cornelia; sons and
daughter-in-law, Wayne Wilson,
Ricky Wilson, Jimmy and Martha
Ann Wilson, all of Lula; daughter-
in-law, Elaine Wilson, Lula; broth
er, Crawford Skelton, Cleveland;
sisters, Willie Mae Humphries,
Ruth Lancaster and Jean Pardue,
all of Cleveland, and Janet Green,
Gainesville; 12 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, December 29, in the cha
pel of MaGahee-Griffin & Stewart
Funeral Home with Pastor David
Ash officiating. Burial was at the
Mossy Creek United Methodist
Church Cemetery.

Everage Brady
Everage Brady, 60, of Baldwin,
died Saturday, December 29, 2007,
at the V.A. Medical Center.
Born on April 19, 1947, in Banks
County, he was the son of Boyce
Brady of Baldwin
and the late Mary
Sue Bennett Brady.
He was a member
of the Damascus Baptist Church
and was retired as a self-employed
carpenter. Mr. Brady was a veteran,
having served in the United States
Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
Survivors in addition to his father,
include his wife, Hazel Cook Brady,
Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law,
Krista Brady and Ben Heimberger,
Baldwin; sons and daughter-in-law,
Kevin and Janice Brady, Baldwin,
and Leon Brady; a sister, Edna
Palmer, Toccoa; brothers, Kenneth
Brady, Gillsville, Marvin Brady,
Toccoa, Edward Brady, Baldwin;
and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at
Whitfield Funeral Home with the
Revs. Danny O’Kelley and Devin
O’Kelley officiating. Burial was
in the Damascus Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Barbara Sue
McNabb
Barbara Sue McNabb, 68, of
Nicholson, died Friday, December
28, 2007, at her residence.
Born on August 6, 1939, in Loudon
County, Tenn., she was the daughter
of the late Robert Haskell and Iva
Mary Allen Shell. She was a home
maker and a member of Madison
Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her hus
band, Dennis Reed McNabb, Sr.,
Nicholson; sons, Dennis McNabb,
Jr., Nicholson, and Michael McNabb,
Colbert; daughters, Patricia Hill and
Penny Cash, both of Commerce; a
brother, Bobby Shell, Philadelphia,
Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Monday, December 31, at Madison
Street Baptist Church with the
Revs. David Harbin and Jim Burkett
officiating. Burial was in New
Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery
in Nicholson.

Jerry Roland
Jerry Lamer Roland, 56, of
Commerce, died Saturday,
December 29, 2007, at Northeast
Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville, following a brief ill
ness.
Survivors include his wife,
Edith C. Roland,

Ricky Roland,
Ballground;
daughters, Vickie
Cox, Commerce,
and Jackie Elliott,
Blue Ridge;
brothers, Leroy
Roland, Marietta,
and Gerald Roland, Canton; sis

five grandchildren.

Rev. Mark Stroud officiating. Burial
was in the Hudson River Baptist
Church Cemetery.

Sarah Stephenson
Sarah Nelda Stephenson, 88,
of Commerce, died Tuesday,
December 25, 2007, at BJC Nursing
Home.
Born in Banks County, she was
the daughter of the late John and
Lyde Rylee Chasteen. She was
a member of the First United
Methodist Church of Commerce
and was retired from Blue Bell.
Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in
death by her first husband, Ralph
Langford; and her second husband,
James Y. Stephenson.
Survivors include a step-daugh
ter, Elaine Blalock, Nicholson; step
sons, Myron Stephenson, Hull, and
Terry Stephenson, Commerce; and
nephews, Johnny Standridge, Texas,
and Mark Scott, Gainesville.

Eula Reidling
Eula Curtis Reidling, 86, of
Commerce, formerly of Gainesville,
died Monday, December 24, 2007,
following an extended illness.
She was born in Murrayville,
the daughter of the late Floyd
and Flossie Curtis, and was a
lifetime member of Murrayville
Congregational Holiness Church.
She was retired from Chicopee
Manufacturing. Mrs. Reidling was
preceded in death by her husband,
W.D. Reidling; and a son, Danny
Reidling.
Survivors include daughters,
Annette Emmett, Commerce, and
Jennifer Huffman, Athens; brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. John
Curtis, Gainesville; seven grand
children; and five great-grandchil
dren.
Funeral services were held Friday,
December 28, at Memorial Park
Funeral Home and Crematory with
the Revs. Michael Emmett, Jeff
Gailey and Bob Garrett officiating.

Gladys Mize Love, 88, of
Commerce, died Tuesday, December
25, 2007.
She was born on September 20,
1919, the daughter of the late Jim
and Emma Nunn Mize of Banks
County. She was a homemaker
and a member of the Silver Shoals
Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter
and son-in-law, Lynda and Grover
Wood, Danielsville; son and daugh
ter-in-law, Tommy and Rose Love,
Lawrenceville; grandchildren and
spouses, Angel Love and Shawn
Cumming, Melodie Love and Shawn
Ottenson, Jenny Wood and Tommy
Palmer; great-grandchildren, Abby,

'Runt' Wilder
Willard Ronald “Runt” Wilder,
62, of Commerce, died Monday,
December 24, 2007, at the Hill
Haven Nursing Home, following
an extended illness.
Survivors include sons, Wesley
Ronald Wilder, Belton, S.C., and
William Ronnie Wilder, Statham; a
daughter, Melissa Wilder, Belton,
S.C.; brothers, C.L. Wilder, Jerry
Wilder, Danny Wilder and Mike
Wilder, all of Commerce; and a
sister, Lou Richey, Commerce; and
a number of grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday,
December 28, in the chapel of
Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs.
Dennis Kesler and Curtis Green
officiating. Burial was in the Cabin
Creek Church Cemetery.

Jack Foster
Jack Foster, 69, of Cornelia, died
Thursday, December 27, 2007, at
Northeast Georgia Medical Center
in Gainesville, following an extend
ed illness.
He was born in Rabun County on
May 6, 1938, the son of the late Ira
Frank and Blonnie Forrester Foster.
He retired from Lee Arrendale
State Prison as a vocational instruc
tor, and was employed with United
Community Bank as a courier.
He was a member of B.C. Grant
Baptist Church, where he served as
a deacon, a board of trustees mem
ber, and Sunday school director
for a number of years. Mr. Foster
was preceded in death by a sister,
Velma Webb; brothers, Robert, Ray,
Paul and Andy Foster. He enjoyed
spending time with his family and
grandchildren, according to loved
ones.
Survivors include his wife, Betty
Foster, Cornelia; sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Rodney and Becky
Foster, Lula, and Mark and Tammy
Foster, Franklin, N.C.; brothers,
Donald Foster, Toccoa, Sam Foster
and Doug Foster, both of Clayton,
and Lester Foster, Rabun Gap; sister,
Peggy Ramey, Tiger; three grand
children; two great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.

pel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart
Funeral Home with the Revs.

Edna Tate
Edna Tate, 86, of Gainesville, died
Tuesday, December 25, 2007, at her
residence, following an extended
illness.
A native of Lumpkin County, she
had lived in Hall County for over
51 years, and was the daughter of
the late Cicero and Madge Mincey
Lingerfelt. She was a homemaker
and a member of Bethlehem Baptist
Church in Lumpkin County. Mrs.
Tate was preceded in death by a
sister, Doris Dillon; brothers, Ben,
Hubert, Ronald, Gene, and MC
Lingerfelt.
Survivors include her husband of
54 years, Clinton Tate, Gainesville;
son and daughter-in-law, David
and Shirley Tate, Gainesville;
brothers, Ralph Lingerfelt and J.B.
Lingerfelt, both of Dahlonega; sis
ters, Joyce Mize, Dacula, Bonnie
Gardner, Homer, and Lois Arthur,
Dahlonega; grandsons, Clay Tate
and Blake Tate; and a large number
of other relatives.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, December 29, at the
Bethlehem Baptist Church in
Lumpkin County with the Rev.
Michael Rodgers officiating. Burial
was in the Bethlehem/Jones Chapel
Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Edward Patman
Minister Edward “Shortening”
Patman, 40, of Arcade, died Tuesday,
December 25, 2007.
He was the son of Pastors Clyde
and Carol Patman.
Survivors in addition to his par
ents, include his wife, Dianne
Patman; daughter, Jessica Patman;
two brothers; three sisters; and
nieces, nephews and other rela
tives.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, December 29, at
Jones Chapel Baptist Church in
Commerce. Burial was in the church
cemetery.

June Hicks
June Hicks, 89, of Demorest, died
Thursday, December 27, 2007, at a
private healthcare facility, follow
ing an extended illness.
She was born in Habersham
County on June 17, 1918, the daugh
ter of the late Oscar Lee “Doc”
and Clara Wallace Wiggins. She
was a member of the Methodist
Congregational Federated Church
and was retired as an elementary
school teacher with the Habersham
County Board of Education after 40
years of service. She was a member
of the Habersham Retired Teachers
Association, Local Chapter of
the AARP, Woman’s Missionary
Union, Eastern Star, Mountaineer
Shrinettes, Ladies Auxiliary of
the Veteran of Foreign Wars and
Georgia Mountains Association.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death
by her first husband, Leonard
Chapman; and second husband,
Raymond Hicks.
Survivors include a daugh
ter, Janice Bennett, Alto; son and
daughter-in-law, Max and Beverly
Chapman, Terrell, Texas; grand
children, Kathy Bennett, Terri
Jones, Ray Chapman and Steven
Chapman; great-grandchildren,
Beth Howard, B.J. Hall and Dustin
Jones; great-great-granddaughter,
Emma Howard.

Gail Farrell
Gail L. Farrell, Clarkesville Artist,
63, died Saturday, December 29,
2007, following a five year battle
with colon cancer.
She was born in Harrison, N.Y.,
and raised in Miami Springs, Fla.
She was the daughter of Ruth Farrell
and the late James M. Farrell.
She moved to California in 1969,
where she received formal training
in art history, and the creation and
marketing of fine art. She worked
in a number of galleries in Carmel
and San Diego, before moving with
her husband to Habersham County
in 1997.
She worked in a variety of art
media, including watercolor, oil pas
tel, printmaking, photography and
collage. She said of her work, that
it was “the expression of the philo
sophical and spiritual influences
in her life.” Her works have been
exhibited and sold in galleries in
San Diego, Phoenix, Sedona, Santa
Fe, Durango, and Aspen, as well as
in local galleries in the Center at
Sautee and the Heritage Center for
the Arts in Tallulah Falls. She loved
to share her work with others and
volunteered at the Heritage Center
for a number of years.
“She was the sweetest, most
joyfully playful woman I’ve ever
known,” said her husband, who
smiled as he remembered her; say
ing, “She made loving friends of
everyone she met, and knew the
power of their love in the enrich
ment of her life and theirs.”
Survivors in addition to her
mother, include her husband, James
Hinkley; sisters, Sherry Thomas
and Wendy Farrell; and a brother,
Steven Farrell.
A celebration of life will be held
at a later date.
