that iiro moro the fa* hi on than t . r. This class j
of bonnets are p-muliarly becomirg. But the j
full dress bonn. . surpass any thing yet seen |
among us, for delicacy au 1 richne.-?. On®, on- j
tirely of white lace, with a wreath oftyny rose- j
buds traver.'.ing flic crown and winding under (
the brim, till the exquisite spray just uiiuglcs J
over tho forehead, might have born intended
for Queen Mub herself. Another, of anowwbito
chip, covered w ith a profusion of lace worth six
dollars a yard, hold fast on each side by clus- j
tera of white roses, ami with its insid.'trim
jniujrs of blended lace and white buds, will, we
doubt act, be carried off by some fair bride be- !
fore morning close-, notwithstanding its price.
But it is impose ible to tics i ibe any one thing j
as pre-eminent among a whole wilderness of bon- |
nets, each of w hich would, if seen by itself, be
pronounced perfect. Bright and showy colors
Are still in request, and arranged with tho fine
taste exhibited in this collection, toned down j
with luce and blended with flowers, lose all up- ,
poarance of over gorgeousm*.-. ’ibe fronts nr-* ;
universally more open than last year, an l crowd |
ed with flowers, and soft illusion or blonde. For I
young ladies, we saw many bonnets of white and
rose color, with tho most exquisite little wreaths, j
widening at tho ears, and growing less and less j
till they met in almost imperceptible buds and j
leaves under the brim.
For married ladies, of the right complexion, j
lilac is a favorite color; one of crap-;, trimmed j
with rich cream cc !-.red cactus- I *, was exceeding ;
ly elegant. A Leghorn, enriched with the most
expensive laee, an l with two foathers, falling
like handfuls of snow flakes mi one si 10, struck
us from its peculiar purity of stylo -worth forty
dollars or more. Another white bonnet, from
which clusters of th mo.-t exquisite heath fell,
more gracefully than health ever grew on tho
.
we walked down tho room. Indeed, nothing,
not even nature herself, can surpass the perfe -
tion to which the art: ..ms of France have brought
artificial flowers. You sea ru. s wuh the dew
trembling among their loaves, clusters of h-uith
from which the drops’ seem falling tiwnv, artifi
cial grasses scarcely m re suh.-tanti.il than
shadows. Indeed, it seems iinpossihl • for art
to reach a higher perfection in this branch th in
wo have witnessed to-day. Nor and..-s Franco
Feem to hold this urt of mocking nature at a l-.w

Several new styles of mantillas were exhibit- j
ed, all larger and deeper thin th -oof In. r year.
The colors are white. a-h > of roses and black, !
but that beautiful tint called nshes-.f ro e* ee-uns j
to be tho favorite. Two of this di.nh- wc re- j
member as very superb. One, “Tho Maria
Louisa,” has a small voire, and three or four
plaits behind gives it, u rich fulln-‘.>s of drapery.
The border is inlaid with lac-and a running!
pattern of braid edged with heavy fringe. The
other, which has some classical name which wo j
have forgotten, is deep and rounded behind, I
short and pointed in front, with a cape and
double points of fringe and i . ..id .*t.ii.roi lory at
least six inches deep, which lit.* a fine effect.
But a white mantilla, win- h takes its name
from the Empress Eugenia,‘iirpas.-cs even these.
