a matter of strong desire among our citizens to

There are many house keepers who are in tlio
habit of taking u few boarders, not known to the

boarders, have yet two and three or more
spare rooms, which they would be willing to
h ive occupied during the approaching week.

As tho comments referred to appear to bo

formation which wo hnve ourselves received,
however, wo are inclined to believe that it will

Delianeo violated a regulation at the Islands
which has been long established, and ought to
have been known to every person visiting them;
and that Capt. M'*Cerran himself knowingly
and wilfully transgressod another of those ro-

; us to entertain no doubt that tiuycouimaridcr of

The Cholera.
The New York Courier fears the cholera may
! reach this country and city, ns it is now so
prevalent iu Europe. The disease has spread
most in England, in filthy locations, as in-New
Castle, where there ure so many more eases in
1853 than 1819. It says:
“At Copenhagen, where the disease has been
ragin. ; out of a thousand persons who wero
removed from a crowded locality to an en
campment outside tho town, only ten died.
At Hamburgh, where the epidemic has been
prevailing upwards of six weeks, only six cases
of cholera have occurred. In the improved
parts of the town, and in London, in thy, rav
ages ol 1849, not. a single case of cholera occur
red in any of tlm model dwellings for the poor,
though the pestilence raged around thorn
among the same class of population. It is said
that the Hospital Surgeons of L union, cun
map down with almost unerring certainity the
districts where the cholera will first appear and
ravage most malignantly, and can predict
almost the per cculugc of eases and the rela
ivo mortality.”

The Frankfort (Ky.) Commonwealth quotes

It is full of errors. Ashland never belonged

did it belong to Col. Nathaniel (J. Hart, who fell
at the river Raisin. It certainly did not de
scend from him to Mr. Clay. The disastrous
battle of the river Raisin was fought, iu Jamta
i rv, 1813, Henry Clay owned Ashland seven or
I eight years at least before that time. Colonel
Nathaniel G. Hart was Mrs. Clay’s brotlier, not

truth respecting Ashland, as near as we can as
certain it from gentlemen who remember the

an early day—say between ISOO and 1806.

Thk Apaimikm !--Tbese words describe for
cibly and at one stroke tho greater portion of
the ini.'fortunes of Sonora, suggesting many
reflections of distress and dismay. The Apa
ches ! Tho Apaches are the cancerous sore 1
which threatens tho State with death—the
enemy which exhausts our blood and destroys j
our power, mid deprives us of hope for the
future. There is no remedy. While the savage
j treads our territory, the Sonorans have no !
other prospect than misery und death, because J
: the prosperity and progress of a people aro im
; possible, wliilo they lose every day the lives |
I and fortunes of their citizens, and the moral
and material parts of society.
1 These are not new truths, but these same j
facts have been repeated time and again until ;
they have become tiresome; but perhaps some !
accounts of their present ravages, robberies j
I and assassinations, may not be useless. Gur I
reader* can judge from tho following narration 1
; of occurrences as Vouched fur by tho papers
befor 0 us
The 0 is no room to doubt that numerous
bands of Indians are ranging through the cen
tral part of the Slate. One party murdered a
wagoner and drove off from the rancho of ,
Algamo, one hundred and sixty mules belong- 1
ing to Governor Grandara. On the 12tb, j
Ajiaches were at l’en.isoo and Bonanchita,
driving off all the animal* they could find in I
1 both places.
The same day. near Mntnpe, they killed j
Miguel Cordoba; on the lltli tlio overseer of •
| Sntebuchi reported th.it the savage* attacked 1
tho servants in Moletb mid killed three, and 1
two others were missing. Tho same day, near
Chorizoti and Nidopa, the barbariuus killed
five and wounded throe persons, sacking tho ,
houses and driving off the stock.
Twenty Mexicans were attacked on tlio 18th ,
inst., 011 the plain of La Salvia. The captain,
Benigno Cota, and three others wero killed, !
mil it was not known how many others ; the
whole company being dispersed and only five
1 having come in nt the latest accounts.
On the llith, six Apaches passed the ranch of ;
j Las It istras with n large herd of stolen horses
and mules. Dun Rafael Aldny saw them and
with three r n/ueros attacked them and took
lbrty.fi e animals. On the same day the sav
ages killed and wounded twelve persons at;
Giengiiiia, not even sparing the women. They i
carried off six men from the Core lion plain,
whether dead or alive is not knowu. The
person who communicates this last item says:—
, *’l have collected tlie people of the uoighbor
huo i about me: but! have only three muskets,
with had flint . If you have any, sen.l them ‘
to me. They spare nothing not oven tho i
. hens.”
On tlio same day. Don Luis Tanori, with 25 ■
men, attacked a parly of Apache* at Alacho
bubi, dispersed them and took twelve horse**.
A letter from La Alisa of the same date
says:—
“About noon yesterday the Anachcg, some
sixty in number, attacked La Punta do Agua.
They found the servants, women and children ;
aloio , for the men were in the plain. The sav
ages left none except two or three women who
e-roped to the bushes,taking with theiu a couple ‘
of children. To-day T have had them buried,
three men, nine women, and eight boys. Two
women were carried oil', and two boys aro lmt
L be found, probably carried offlikcwi.se.”
On the same day three persons were killed
in the mountains near Santu Teresa.
This i.*- tlio now* obtained from tho corrcs- j
pon leneo before 11s. According to tho most
reliable accounts eighty persons have been killed
withiu a very short time, without counting tho
dea l on the Altar, at CumpU* and other places
in that neighborhood.
Governor Gnndara is making every exertion :
permitted by tho low state of the public hum I

Revival of Religion in Columbus*.
I ‘” the two last weeks, a very extensivo rc- j
rival ol religion has been going on in the Me- i
1 and: ,t church in this city, under the pastrol
charge ol Rev. \\. G. Connor, who has been as
si.-ted in hi- labor of lovo by Revs. Evans, Ar
nold, Duncan an tho local ministry of tho city.
We are iufonned that about 90 have professed !
religion, and upwards of 60 accessions have
been made to the church.— Times.
The Moral Tendency *of our^County.
It is a source of great gratification to the
people of Cass, and ol lovers of re!igi"ii every
where, to see such evident signs of moral re
formation among us. Wo have now- within our
limits, perhaps more preachers of the Gospel,
tli hi any other county iu the State; und in tin*
late revivals, we have seen tho effects of their
happy influence. The churches have raised
drunken, depraved and almost abandoned be
ing-, to be pious ami valuable citizens. How
forcibly are we reminded of tlio benign inllu
onee of religion, when we see beside the altar,
devout worshippers, those who were but yester
day pests to society. There have been about 1009 !
persons added to the different churches in our
county, during the present year. —Cuss ville
