The moat charming voioae in the city
will take part. Among them are some
whiob have never bean heard outside of
the horns circle. One Is said to possess
the riabnees and flexibility of note which
characterizes that of Carlotta Patti.
Among the attractions will be the repre
sentation of a scene from the Bohemian
Girl. Prof. Chase has kindly assisted at
all the amateur concerts in our city given
for charitable or other purposes. He has
labored faithfully and earnestly with all
hia rioh gifts and mnsieal culture to make
them enjoyable, and our people should
ase that ha baa a full house on the occa
sion of his own oonoert.

Bines Friday the market wagons have
commenced bringing in a goodly supply
of rips elssr-stooe poaches, for which
they charge one dollar a peck. Do the
marketmen suppose every man in the city
is a millionaire; or, at best, has one bun
dred cents in hie pockets when the strong
desire far peaches is strong on him?
Gentlemen, don’t take all the wealth in
the oountry, we beseech thee. Have
meroy upon those who yearn for peaohea.
It only costs you the trouble to pull the
fruit off the trees. That ain't worth a
dollar per handful. Oh! fora psaoh tree
oovered with luaoions fruit—whose deli
cate tints ooly the bloom of a brilliant
maiden's cheek can equal—just within
our reach, and no dollars nseded, to pluok
and eat as you willed. Ye gods! what
enjoyment there would be.
Figs are also beooming plentiful. Our
ambition does not, however, soar after
figs. _ ^

A Yankee Judge was ones told a thing
was impossible. Wellington, the "Iron
Duke," would have replied "Its in the
order book, and must be dono.” The
Yankee's reply was simply "I hevdons it."
Bo it is about olovar in this section. Old
farmers say it eannot be raised in the
South. Now we have seen as rioh, ehoioe
olover brought in on wagons, in the last
few days for sale, as was ever gathered
from the best fields in Kentuoky. People
can raise an abundanoe of it if they will
rotate their crops and follow some advice
they get from books and papers, and not
bo so pig-headed as to pursue a system
becauso tbeir fathers, who were bully
farmers, did so. Those who raised the
clover say it piys largely.
Wbilo upon the subject, we may men
tion that the beautiful olover and blue
grass in the Baptist Cbnroh yard is disap
pearing simply for the want of attention.
Any clover field would amount to nothing
if it were allowed to take care of itself
for years.
Wa mentioned on Batnadsy the ease r.f a
iored woman who *aa in what is called
transe, because of religious excitement.
Wa hear of a naan who is in a similar con
dition. They neither eat, drink, nor
talk that is, they do none of these things
while thsy are being observed. Their
condition is not unfamiliar to those who
have attended camp meetings or large
religious gatherings of the negroes.

totting JlscAlos War—A Bubble Rural.
There is quite an interesting newspaper
war now waging between the agents of
the Singer and Howe Maobine Companies
at Atlanta, by which it appears that the
Hows Company, throogh J. B. Hoarratt,
who sometimes styles himself "attorney,”
proposed, by the way of a dodge, to eua.
ble them to get off tbeir hands a large
number of old style and half-worn ma
chines, to build a factory in that city, but
modestly (?) asks the Atlanteae to contri
bute one hundred thousand dollars!! to
ward the enterprise. The Gate City folks
failed to see the great boon about to be
conferred upon their city, and responded
nix. But Mr. G. W. Leonard, who rep.
resents the Hioger Manufacturing Com
petty in that city, in a communication pub
lished in the Atlanta Herald, most effect
ually pricks the sham bubble of the
Howe's “attorney,” and in the dose of a
paragraph in the letter referred to, speak,
ing as to the possibility of bis company
erecting a factory in Atlanta when oeoa-
sion requires, says, "the resolution once
formed, they (the Singer Company) will
not insist upon a donation of the site or
any subeeription to the stock as prelimi.
nary requisites to its ereotion,” That’s
the way to talk business. —Montgomery

Prominent Incidents
History of Columbus
Prom its First Settlement in 1827, to the
Wilson Haiti, in 1805, compiled by JonN
H. Manti.v.
The undersigned proposes to publish, in a
volume of 150 or more pages, a work under
the above title, covering the period from the
selection qf the locality for a “ tradiny toum,
in 1827, to the capture and partial destruction
qf the city by the Wilson Haul, in 1805,
The incidents loi/l be derived mainly from its
newspapers, which will be gleaned for this
purpose with much eare. It is believed that
most qf our citizens would like to have such
incidents in this compact and convenient form,
and will encourage the undertaking to the
extent qf the email amount asked for the work.
Each chapter will contain short biographi
cal sketches or notices qf the principal citizens
mentioned in if, who have since died. The
volume will also embrace full information
concerning the churches, factories, il'C., now
existing.
We do not propose to publish this compila.
tion with a view to making money, as the
email price asked for it u-itl show. But at
the sanw time we do not want to lose money
by its publication, and therefore we wish to
limit the number tf copies printed to the de
mandfor the work. WifA this object in
io< issue this prospectus, inviting those u-ho
desire copies qf the volume to lend in their
names.
The price will be one dollar per copy for
m pamphlet bound volume, printed on paper
like the specimen sheet issued. A small
number qf. copies will also be issued cn a su
perior article qf paper for $1 30 per copy.
Payable when the work is delivered, which
will bt some time next Fall.

Da. Scuinck's Pulmonic Bybvp, Ska Weed
Tonic, and Mandrake Pilii.—These medicine*
have undoubtedly performed more
CoDaouptioQ than any other remedy known to
the American public. They are compounded of
vegetable iugredlenta, and contain nothing which
cau bo injurious to the human couatitutiou. Other
roinediea advertised aa cures for Consumption
probably contain opium, which is a somewhat
dangerous drug iu all casos, aud if taken freely by
consumptive patients, it must do great injury; for
its teudency is to emttus the morbid matter In
the syatem, which, of course, must make a cure
impossible. Schenek's Pulmonic Syrup is war*
ranted not to contain a particle of opium; it is
compxwel ef powerful but harmless herbs, which
act on the luugs, liver, stomach and blood, aud
thus correct ail morbid secretions, aud expel all
the diseased matter from the body. These are the
only mesne by which Consumption can be cured,
and Pcbcnrk’s Pulmonic Syrup, 8ea Weed
Tonic and Mandrake Pills are the oaly medicines
which operate in this way, it ia obvioni they are
