Onr first vi-lt was to the ebapel of the
Wesleyan Female College, where the an

ohief performers, a« well at one of the
moat popular, was Mist Mary Lon Little,
of Talbotton, the beautiful and aooom-
plitded titter of Captain W. A. Little, of
yonr city, who ia thi* year a member of
the graduating clau. One of the best
and moot cultivated vocalists in the col
lege, Hie has shared the highest honors ia

man and Leila Burke—a trio of lovely
and sweet aipgera.
Columbus is this year represented by a
single pupil—a smart little mils of four-
teen years—Mist Leila V. Gordon,

_ wh one of the tan selected from the
Sophomore clan to road, the appointment
"being mode solely on the ground of pre-

P to doty.” The accomplished and poetic
i local editor of the Telegraph ranks Miss
Gortloa at the best reader of the ooc t-
•ion, and that speaks of her subjaot, "The
Curfew Most not Bing To-night, ” an anony
mous poem: “The production requires
a very animated style of delivery to make
it appreciated, but Mitt Gordon was
equal to the ocoaeioa, and thrilled the
audience with her performance. She
damned all the applause she got.”
Mite Gordon is also profleent in orayon
drawing, and has Hveral floe sketches
adorning the walls of the chapel, and we
bur her very highly spoken of as a most
industrious and gifted student. She ia
an orphan, formerly residing with her
uncle, Dr. Abercrombie, of Columbus,
but now a member of the family of Mr.
Charles M. Wiley, of this city.
Your neighboring city of Opelika has
... this year furnished the “First Honor'
girl of the graduating class, Mies Mollie
j E. Barnes, daughter of Col. Win. H.
Barnes, a distinguished lawyer of that
piece. Mlse Barnes read the “Valedio-
tory Addree to the Faculty, ” and the “Val
edictory Address to the Senior Class,'
V and in both instances acquitted herself
with distinction. Miss Bailie Erwin, of
, Opelika, and Miss Carrie F. Gilmer, of
Moutgomory, were the only other gradu-
'" ates from your vicinity.
Htc venerable Dr. Lovick Pieroe and
.iBisbop Pierce were present on the plat-
jff’tH 1 •» were also Dm. Key and Wright,
and Bev. Messrs. Christian, McGehee,
Dixon, Uobiaon, and Simmons. But as I
Saw your occasional correspondent taking
