GIVE US A LITTLE TIME.
The new managaraof the Brunewiok
Tim its and tbs Brunswick Call take
this method of asking a little indul
gence of the people for a short time.
It is no easy job to consolidate two
nswspspers, but to get the cfflcee to
gether snd operate two papers, is
something that time alone oan arrange.
We do not want to be judged by the
drat few Issues of the Times and the
Call, and we are sure that the public
will grant us a few days.
IT MUST BE STOPPED.
During these hot months, the humane
society is going to use every effort to
prosecute those who ill treat animals.
It was only yesterday that a horse which
had been driven several miles in the
country fell and came very near dying.
This animal had been driven by two
young men who doubtless would not
have been so hard on the poor thing had
they been sober, We would be giad to
give their names, but on account of their
families and mortification on the heads
of innocent people, we will lit the mat
ter go this time. r
CHINESE QUESTION
Billy Bice, the famous negro min
strel, used to deliver a “lecture” entitled
“The Chinese Question,” The merit of
the effort lay In its Incohcrcney, and
Kiec’.B audiences wore always convulsed
with laughter.
The Chinese •question is an old one,
hut it was never eo interesting as it is to
day. It has passed the stage of humor
oua exploitation, while deepening iu
complexity. It Is the gravest question
that confronts the world.
That vast changes arc Impending lu
the ancient empire there is no doubt,
iiut whether the eneroaciilng Powors
are bJW on immediate partition of tbe
territory, bor the seizure of privileges
that might be more easily controlled, is
for the future to develop.]
For the present, the thief sufferer ap
pears to to be the Chinese Nation, but
before the spoil is divided among the
seekers of new markets and propagators
of religion, there may arise jealousies
and frictions that will lead to wars
whose conclusions will sec many altera
tions of international boundaries.
