Somebody once aa'd something about
having “oarmonj” in Brunswick’*
municipal politios.
The word sourded nloe and the ideas
bsok of it seemed good.
The newspapers exploded the ide

receive tbe thanks of an anxious list
of tax payers, and to bs legal voters
There may be, however, yet a chance

be as great as if it was a general elec

ferred to take exception* to the idea of
a mass meeting and on that line the
following is
(Communioated )
To tbe Citizens and Voters of B'nns
wick:
At a meeting held yesterday after
noon by a number of tbe friends of the
aldermanio ticket suggested to he com
posed of Messrs. A V. Wood, O. L.
iP.rker, W. M, Tapper and Aj L.
Franklin, the undersigned committee
i wai appointed to addreta tb a common
ioation to you.
Tbe friends of and those who bave
suggested tbe above namod g. utlemtn
as beat Sited and qualified to represent
the interests of all tbe people of tbe
city of Brunswiok ate unalterably
opposed to a mass meeting, where, aB it
fa well known, few control, and many,
and particularly the voters have little
or no oppoituoity of expressing a free
ohoioe for those fav ired by them for
preferment. Tbeir friends are strongly
la favor of, and later ou will properly
oill for 'he holding of a white primarj
to nominate en aldermauio ticket.,
where full opp >r:unity may be given f, r
tbe free expression of .heir oboioe to
four aldermen. Tbis munot be done at
a mass meeting, as well as at a primary
election. No one oan deny this with
reason; for it is wsll known tbat at all
past mass meetings held in tbis neck of
tbe woods, the slate la fixed before
hand by tbe permanent obairman wbo
is eleoted at tbe merlins’ to appoint tbe
committee to go out and nominate, and
tbe whole Mate goes through wuh s
whoop and a ruab
Tbe committee was farther instructed
to expressly d**ny th* etstemert es
made by some who sre in favor of other
persons for alderman than the gentle
men above named, that these gentlemen
arc merely Law and Order League can
didates; and that, if they are elected
by tbe people of B'-answiok, they would
reprerent only the church-goers, to tbr
Nc'asion of others; and especially to
correct the s’a ement of one of tbe
newspapers of the oity, that the above
named gentlemen hi v been nominated
by tne Law and 0.-der League only
This is not true. The Law and Order
Leagoe has not as suob nominated any
atdermanic tick .t; neither has the so
oalled 'R ng,’ uebber has the bo called
“Good Government Cluo,” and neither
as yet has the ao called "Ma,s Meet*
|ng.”
These gentlemen have not as yet been
nominated by any poll leal wing or
faction, in* they have been ed
to the good cit'zers of Brunswick a
men who would be satisfactory to tb
majority of tbe e ilire psopie i t tb<
city.
We feel aa ured that should tbe ad
vocates of the ma>s meeting agree to
goto to a white primary, four g n iemrn
satisfactory to the greatest number of
Brunswick's citizens could be nominal
ed; and this tio, without vote buying
or any o'.h.r oaose tbu'„ would engeude.
strife. As before state!, should the
majority of the voters at a white pri
mary prefer and (nominate other good
citizens than the four gentlemen above
named, the friende cf these gentlemen
would support such a ticket in tbe
general election heartily.
The committee was furthet instruct
ed to urge upon those who are friendly
to and will favor the above named
gentlemen for aldermen, should those
who insist upon the mass meeting not
floally agrre to the holding of a white
primary, not to bind nr commit them

The Times Call reoogd z s the fac
tba* all the gentlemen interested in the
two movem-*n‘s referred to have prim
arily the best interests of B-unswick
at heart. This being true and the situ
ation not han'pg yet reached an aoute
stage It is possible tbat an agreement
may yet be reach'd araioabl j to both
sides. Several hours will yet elsps
before tbe mass meeting assembles to
night and in tbat interim it i possible
for tbe two opposing ets to get, to
ge ber.
In the interest of that peace and
harmony wbioh is so much to be sought
for the Timus-0 11 trusts that some
arrangement will be arrived at during
today witch will result in one ticket
going forth prrctioally endorsed by
ev ry one. This is a 1 matter in whiob
every Brunswictian ie interested. It is
a matter m wbioh no one questions tbe
Übae fib motives of either side* Thie
b-mg true it is to be hoped that all
interested will "get together."
Tbe questions involved mean more
than p-rsonal ambition a <f men and a*
