Cinema Gourmet: To
Kill A Mockingbird
Cinema Gourmet, Golden Isles Arts
and Humanities’ popular series pair
ing delicious food with classic films,
continues on Thursday, January 10,
2019 with the much loved classic To
Kill A Mockingbird.
The film’s screening and discussion
are paired with the culinary delights of
Chef Judah Lynch and Indigo Coastal
Shanty. The evening’s events begin
with delicious food at 6:30 p.m.
To Kill A Mockingbird is based on
the 1960 Pulitzer Prize winning novel
by Harper Lee and tells the story of At-
ticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-
era South, who defends a black man
against an undeserved rape charge,
and his children against prejudice.
Starring Gregory Peck as Atticus
who won a well-deserved Academy
Award as Best Actor for his portrayal,
the film is told through the eyes of six-
year-old Scout (Mary Badham) both as
a child and as an adult, allowing the
viewer to witness both heart-breaking
cruelty and heart-warming humanity.
As one of its posters described it, it
is “The rare film story of a father who
must expose his children to a small
town’s outraged passions...and can
only protect them with his love.”
Cinema Gourmet continues with
Tokyo Story on February 14, Chaplin’s
City Lights on March 14 and concludes
on April 11 with The Princess Bride.
Fueled by a love for classic mov
ies and great food, Cinema Gourmet
audiences have grown tremendously

Bicycles
Continued from Page 1
These two men worked together
and brought the project to the Ex
change Club.
They set up a fund to purchase
new bikes at Christmas, with the club
members paying into the fund at each
meeting by being fined by the Sargent
at Arms Jim Seymour.
“These fines are for various rea
sons,” Club member Steven Floyd,
“like having your picture in the paper
or not having your name badge on or
just plain because Jim thinks we need
to buy a bike.”
Over the years Powell passed away
and Jimmy took over the project. But
when Jimmy passed away his son in
law Mark Bearden became the chair
man of the Powell McDonald Bicycle
Fund.
The Exchange Club of Brunswick
works with Glynn county school so
cial workers to determine who needs
a bike at Christmas.
Over the years the club has pur
chased more than 3,000 bicycles, with
80 to 90 bicycles given away each year.
“Because of the men like Powell
McDonald and Jimmy Hancock,” said
Floyd, “the Exchange club of Bruns
wick has the blessing of be able to help
bring a smile to a child on Christmas
day.”
The Exchange club of Brunswick
was founded in 1946 and held their
first Exchange Club Fair in 1951.
“For 67 years the Fair has been
our main fund raiser to help our com
munity,” said Floyd, “We donate time
and money to many organizations
throughout the year. Some of our cur
rent benefactors are the CIA sports
club, CASA, Safe harbor, Saved by
Grace, and many more.”
The Exchange club of Brunswick
is a group of business people working
together to make our community a
better place to live through programs
of service, Americanism, youth pro
grams and our national project, the
prevention of child abuse.
