How About It.
—
Say neighbor, lets have a heart-to
heart talk together.
Hew about Religion? Have you got I
it? Dont you agree with me that it is a,
good thing?
Dor.t you think it means, and ungrate
ful, and unreasonable, and unwise, ar.,l
desperate, to receive so many blessings
from the Good Father, and give him
nothing in return? Every man in Col
quitt owes it to every body else in town
to set the best example possible for
them.
We owe it to one another to help one
i another to live right.
Do you pay your debts? Lets be
honest, and pay up. It is best for the
church, the town, your neighbor, your
home, and yourself for you to be a
Christian. The fact is, we cant afford
to neglect our souls.
Another thing Religion wont hurt
your business, unless your business is
wrong.
It will not interfere with your pleas
ures, unless your pleasures are wrong.
And if your business and pleasures
are- improper, they ought to be unset.
gay, it isnt too late tc improve. Let.
quit our meanness, go to church, jvi;
some church if not already a member,
md ds our best for our community in
lustrially, morally, religiously.

July, 19,1912. i'
On M -nday morning, the L><l)»
inst the editress of the Liberal
Joseph &Zula B. Toole with their
laughter, t tna Zula, left their
home in Colquitt for Dublin to
join the members of the associa
tion in the Convention to be called
to order Monday evening.
When we reached Vidalia over
the Sea Board Air Line we were
yreatly disappointed to find that
Hie train for Dublin was gone and
ihnt them would not bo another
till Tuesday morning.
it was hard to wait, knowing
that the people es Dublin had plan
ned for a great reception.
As we waited we fi It that the
comn’ittee appointed to meet the
memb-Fb and assign them homes
would not meet any trains after
the opening of the convention; but
we decided to go on to Dublin.
Tuesday morning as the train
containing hundreds of people rol
led into the city of Dublin, wo a
mong t.ie throng alighted. It it>
s.ill a mystery io the editress how
a gentleman could distinguish
press pe< pie among such a crowd;
but it is true that a man whose
.. very word mi act betokened a true
gentleman stepped toward us as
we left the car steps and asked
"Are you all here to attend the
Preos Convention?” As we an
swered affirmatively three lads took
_.ur grips and we were requested
to accompany the gentleman Air
Vivian Stanley who carried us to
die Chamber of Commerce. After
meeting the distinguished gentle
nen there and registering we were
assigned to the home of Capt. T.
H. Rowe.
A handsomejiutomobilu convey
ad us to “our home,” and there the
host, a pioneer and wealthy citizen
of Dubl’ n, who distinguished him
self lighting for the lights of h s
country in the Civil W ar, and his
widowed daughter, Mrs J. A. Cars
well, who since her mother’s death
several years ago has presided over
the household, extended to no a,
welcome, the memory of which
will gladden our lives as long as
reason holds sw ly.
As soon as we could make ieady
we w-re taken by our hostess to
the High School Auditorium to
attend a business session of the
Press Association.
As noon hour approached tin
representatives of every paper were
requested to get on board a special
train and be conveyed to Idyb
Wild, a pleasure resort eighteen
miles from Dublin. There on the
pavilion the press party was served
with a feast, b irbecue, stews, sal
ads etc., cooked by one experienced
in preparing every detail.
Upon returning to the cily
another business session a’iis heal
at the auditorium after which the
editors returned to the respective
homes assigned.
At 8’ oclock Tuesday evening
the press party was invited to a
b-autifully decorated hall and
there twenty large tables each with
covers for twelve persons, and
jS ivdler tables, were loaded with
edibles fit to place before kings
and the loyal members of their
I hniiseiiold.
R 'V. \V. A. Taliaferro pastor of
- First Baptist church, was toast
master; and as he called for respon
ses, his remarks sparKliqg with wit
and humor were greeted with
bursts of laughter or rounds of ap
plause.
The most brilliant men of the
Association responded, and the
hours at the banquet were filled
with unalloyed pleasure.
Wednesday morning the mem
bers in session listened to short
but interesting talks, elected offi
cers and accepted the invitation to
I hold the convention in 1913 in La
grange.
An appeal fre m Bainbridge
the convention to be held there
next year was received, but it was
not placed before the body.
Because Bainbridge is near us
the Liberal representatives were
anxious for the Convention to be
held there but its application, and
ihose of Eastman and Milledge
ville will be considered next year
for the gathering in 1914.
Thirteen years ago the Press As
sociation was held in Dublin which
was then a town of about 2000 in
habitants.
Dublin now claims 8000 inhabit
ants, all of which enjoy the advan
tages offered in the most progres
sive cities of the nation: and mark
this well, the lending citizens at
tribute its phenoininal growth to
the former convention held thir
teen years ago by the Georgia
Weekly Press Association.
