Jud Roberts and the Mercer
Bears gunned the high-flying
olumbus College quint, 90-76,
getting revenge for an earlier loss
to the visitors on their home
floor.

son why he is in the race for
Little All-America honors, swished
the nets for 38 points, with 25 of
these coming in the first half on
long range bombs. In the Bears
first game ever against Columbus,
Roberta hit 40 points in a 103-90

pushed around by a big, strong
Rebel five. Marvin Bailey, the
Bears 6-5 freshman center and
sophmore Jim Graham helped the
Bears outrebound the taller Rebels,
with Bailey getting 17 and Graham
11, as the Bears won the battle of
the boards, 65-59.
The game was a rough and
tumble affair, with the entire Mer
cer starting five playing the last
few minutes of the game with four
fouls apiece. The visitors were in
practically the same situation with
their starting five. However, Butch

Columbus, fouled out with about a

his torrid play by adding 17, and
Jim Graham pitched in 11 in the
win.

finished with 16.

The win was the 13th of the
season for the Bears and assures
them of at least an even slate for
the season. Mercer has only four
games left, and only one of these
are road games. The road game is
against a tough Jacksonville Uni
versity team, and the Bears have
home games against Florida
Southern, a team they have beaten
on the road this year, Oglethorpe,
who beat the Bears in Atlanta,
' and Georgia Southern, a team the
Bears have beaten twice this year.

Season's Windup
ATO destroyed their closest com
petitor when they mauled SN 66-36.
ATO shook the pace up from the
start wi th a constant fast lead
and left the court at half time with
a 32-18 advantage. The second
half was no better for the snakes
as ATO ran up its final margin of
30 points. Igniting the Tau’s attack
was Stu Mervis who led the fast
break time and again for 24 points,
he was followed by Ronnie Bennett
with 14 and Chester Pierce with 12.
SN was led’ by freshman Jim Cole
with 15 and Richard Jacobs with
10.
The UA’s opened up with a
close game in the second half and
ran away from MIMA 56-43. The
game had been close at the first
but the fast UA’s opened up a
substantial lead by the half. Led by
Charlie Bowen's shooting and Steve
Jackson on the bounds MIMA
closed the margin to 4 points
several times but finally the UA’s
pressed too much and widened the
gap. MIMA was led by Steve Jack-
son and Charles Bowen each with
15 while the UA’s were paced by
Andy Brumbach’s 18 and Lou
Johnson's 13.
KA captured its second win of
the season by downing Pi Kappa
Phi 60-39. The game boiled down
to a balanced team effort on KA’s
part and the one man show of
Richard Keley. KA found it was
able to run and shoot on Pi Kap
Steve Wright netted 13 while Gray
Brenner playing only the second
half got 12 as did Cole. Riley netted
24 as he did most of the shooting
chores for Tt Kap.
Phi Delta Theta whipped the
Lawyers 54-45 but it wasn’t that
close as Phi Delt was generous
ly substituting players at the end.
David Wilbanks ended his intra
mural career with 23 points and led
the Willards to a slim 24-21 first
half lead. But together John Fox
and Wilbanks opened the margin
constantly until the scrubs went in
and the score became respectable.
The lawyers were led by a couple
of hotshots, Boyce with 13 and
Lancaster with 16 while Fox put 12
in for Phe Delt in addition to Wil
banks 23.
