THE OLIVE BILL.
This bill has been growing more 1
in favor each day for a long while.
Now Mr. Berner, of Monroe, has fio
isbed his substitute for tbe bill, and
it or some other bill on tbe same f
line, or tbe original Olive bill will l
pass in a few days. While the origi 1
nal Olive Bill may not pass, it is
evident that the main object of this ,
bill to enforce the Constitution is i
soon to become a tew. To tbe At- ;
ianta Journal,, more than to any- 1
thing Use, are the people indebted ‘
for this happy stale ot affairs. It is (
a triumph of the people against great
odds.
CoL Livingston has a card in tbe
Macon Telegraph, stating that be
i« not a candidate tor Governor at
this lime. TbeCol. evidently means
to say that if the chances are favor- ‘
able lie will be in the race, and we
presume this to be a kind of a bint i
for bis friends to keep an eye on tbe i
situation.
The probability is that tbe legis
lature will not adjourn before
November.
President Washington mortgage!

Tbe extension is for a quarter of a
mite in every direction except as to
West Kod, anti that community will ■
vote on the question of coming in.
All tbe Inman Psrk properly is

Letter From Mr (Tip.
Deak Chronicle: —l thiuk the
fanner 8 Alliance is a good organiza
tion, if they don’t become ultra in
their movements. If they fix the
price of cotton, and the manufacturer
can’t pay it, and see his products at
remunerating prices, what then? It
stops the factories and the farmers
too. The farmers can’t make more
cotton till they sell what they have
for it would be folly to hoard up
cotton, and make more, tor the large
accumulation would only drive tbe
price lower, especially if the sac-

, factories can run profitably, they
will stop at least part of tbe time,

yard, it brought 90 cents and thirty
cents off tor tbe cotton, left 60 cents

e lion had to come off, but now, cotton
r at the minimum is 10 cents, checks
al the maximum, is 6 cents, factory

NATIONAL CAPITOL. ”
WASHINGTON LEITER.
(From our Regular Corres ondent) 1
Washington, D. C., September 2. ’
“Foraker is to be knocked out,’’ said a prom
inent politician, “and some of tbe leading
Ohio Republicans will help the Democrats
to do it.”
“What do you mean. General?” asked
your correspondent.
“Exactly what I said,” returned the
i General.
After much persuasion, and the promise
that Lis name should not be used, the gen
tieman agreed to tell me his reasons for
making the assertion. He said:
! “You are probably aware that tbe Ohio
• crop of would-be-gre*t-men has for some
t years been largely in excess of the demand,
. and consequently the State is full of that
class of men. and tbe m ist ot them are
Republicans. Foraker has been in the
1 way of these fellows for some time, and
r they recognize tbe fact that if again elected
Governor, there will be no keeping him
down, he will either demand to [be sent to
the Senate, or supported for President.—
Tuey have decided liiat the easiest way to i
s get rid of him is to help the Democrats de
.l feat him, and to that end the wires are
[, now being laid. Murat Halstead and
u Richard Smut, ot the Cincinnati Coinmer
o cial Gazette, art in the plot, as is also
Senator Sberuiau. I do not assert that
President Harrisou is helping these men to
y down Foraker, but I know that be is cog
a nizant of their plans, aud has made no ob
_ jtciion thereto. He probably would shed
u tew teals to see Foraker put in a position
that would make him an impossibility in
tbe race tor the Republican Presidential
nomination in 18ftJ.”
