l>y a notice which we publish to-day, it will be
perceived that the Commencement Exercises of
this institution will commence on Sunday 19th
Octol>er and close on Wednesday. This institu
tution though comparatively in its infancy, Ims
already established a well earned reputaiion. The
patrons and friends of the College and the neigh

for the time employed in attending the Commence

f®” Col. J. W. White of Kansas, requ sts a

by T. B. Peterson, 102, Chesnut-street, Philaf

The world wide reputation of the Authoress of
this work, is a sufficient guarantee to its claims to

Mrs. Sarah J. Ha!e. the popular Editor of Go

as should lie possessed by all, and read at every
fire side in the land. And those that have them
not. should procure them at once.” We are in re
ceipt of a copy of the above named work, and tes
tify to the neat execution of the same, in a mecha

New Advertisement.
W e invite attention to the advertisement of
Messr Shulman A Brothers to befomid in our
colnmns to-day. The House of Sk ulinan, may be j
said to be co-eval with Griffin. Its foi tunes have
been linked with the destiny of our place in all it?
vicissitudes. Two of the Brothers reside in New
York, and thereby have superior advantages in
purchasing goods at the very lowest market pric>
Hence their ability to sell low. Their stock is
large and well selected, and those who call may ex
pect to get good bargains. Give them a trial.
Mr. X. Weed, of Mat :on, again appears in our
c-dumns. with anew advertisement, and anomicing
his continuance in business, with anew aud great
ly enlarged stock of goods. One of our concern
a few days since visited his store, and we speak ad
vi*odly when we say his stock is magnificent. It
may be a mystery to some how it is, that Mr
Weed is enabled not only to keep up his busines 8
but to enlarge it every year. Two words will solve
the mystery. PRINTERS INK. To all our read
ers, we say. when ever you visit Macon to purchase
goods in Mr Weed’s line, don’t go any where else,
but to his store. You will thereby save both shoe
leather and money.

Professor O. J. Wood’s
Hair Restorative , for producing hair on Bald Heads, and
restoring Gray Hair to its Natural color.
I'MilS astonishing and unequalled preparation has never
. failed to produce a growth on Bald Heads, when used
according to the directions, and turn hair back to its orig.
inal color, after having become grey, and reinstate it in all
its original health, lustre, softness, and beauty. Removes
atoueo all scurf, and unpleasant itching, scrofula, erup

the hair from becoming unhealthy and falling off, and
hence acts asa perfect Hair invigoriitor and Tonic.
A gentleman ol Boston writes to liis friends in New Bed

To your inquires I would reply, that I first commenced
using Prof. Wood’s Hair Restorative, my hair was almost
white and had been so for the last ten years, and it was
very thin on tiro top of my head, and very loose, and pulled
out freely; but. I found before I had used al! of the second
bottle, (which was eight weeks,) my hair was entirely
changed to its original color, (light brown) and is now free
from dandruff, and quite moist. 1 have had my hair cut 5
or 6 times since the change, and have never seen anything
like white hair starting from the roots: and it is now as
thick as it ever was, and does not come out at all. It has
prevailed in my case all that i could wish to ask.
July 1,1855. Yours&c. -
Gardiner, Maine, June 22.1854.
Dear Sir.- I have used two bottles of Prof. Wood’s Hair
Restorative, and can truly .say, it is the greatest discovery
of the age, for restoring and changing the hair
Before using it, I wasas gray as a man ofseventy. My hair
has now attained its original color. You can recommend
it to the world, without the least fear, as my case was one
ofthe worst kind.
D N MURPHY.-
St. Louis, March 7 1.'54.
Prof. Wood: My hair commenced falling off some three
or four years since, and continued to do so, vmtiil 1 became
quite bald. I tried all the popular medicines of the day,
but lo no effect. At last, I was induced to try your celebra
ted Hair Restorative, and am happy to say, it is doing won
ders. I have now a line growth of young hair, and cheer
fully recommend its use to all similarly afflicted.
A. C. WILLIAMS. 133 Second street.
Rasin Mich., Aug. 2,1855.
This is to certify, that one year ago, I was quite gray,
and my hair so thin upon the top of my head, that I feared
its entire loss. In this condition, I applied for and obtain
ed a bottle ot Prot. Wood's‘Restorative,’ and before I had
used one quart bottle, the gray hairs had entirely disap
peared and it had thickened up, so as to he full as usual and
it assumed a glossy appearance, appearenllv more beautiful
than everit Was before. Ido therefore, cheerfully recom
mend it to all those ladies who value a beautiful head of
hair. I will aiso state that 1 it,so it now, occasionally, for
its healthy and beautifying effects.
SARAH J. BROWN.
CiiiAiio.May 1,1854.
I have used Professor Wood’s Hair Restorative to decided
advantage. It prevents the hair from coming out, gives it
a gloss and softness ve>y desirable. The few gray hairs I
had. have entirely disappeared. Others of my family have
used it, and concur with mein pronouncing it all it profess
es to be.
HENRY A. CLARK,Michigan Avenue.
St. Louts, Sept. 50,1853,
Dr. 0. J. Wood—Sir; T have used nearly three bottles of
your Hair Restoiative, and have found its effects very satis
factory. It has entirely destroyed all the dandruff from my
head, and restored my hair to its original color, which had
become quite gray.

COTTON JI'AIIVESTEH, FOll PICKING
COTTON IN THE ITEM).
THIS valuable machine, second only to tlie Invention of
the Cotton Gin, is destined to produce a remarkable
change in tlie method of gathering cotton from the field —*
It will do the work of from three to five hands in picking
cotton from the staik, and is evidently a labor-saving ma
chine. Its benefit to the Planter is incalculable. It picks
the cotton clean and free from trash, leaves it in excellent
condition for ginning—obviates the necessity of exposing
the hands to heavy dews, rains and cold, and from the ra
pidity of its work, will enable the Planter to prepare his
crop for market at an early day, leaving him time for the
improvement of his land, houses, cut iosures and general
arrangement of the Plantation.
It is light, weighing about 8 pounds, is suspended by a
strap over the shoulders, and is operated by means of a crank
turned by the hand or lingers. The simplicity of this ma*
chine is its leading feature—it is not liable to get out of or
der, and any negro of ordinary capacity, is competent to
use it. One harvester, with proper care, Will last a series
of venrs.
