Cowart’s Speech. —One ofthe most interesting’
aad stirring appeals made here during our great
protracted meeting, says the Atlanta Intelligencer
was the speech of Col. R. J. Cowart, delivered ut
the -land, iti front ofthe Trout House, on I’ rid ay
jiight. Four or five thousand were present, who
made the very welkiD ring with shouts, as Cowart
threw his hot shot iuto the ribs of poor “Samuel”
for the space of nearly two hours ; and then the
,ry was “go on 1 go on ! ! go on :! 1” but the time
for the torch-light procession had arrived, and the
scene had to be changed.

We the committee to whom was referred the

ibe follow iug report:
We are again called upon to mourn the death of
a worAy brother, ife race is run, with him the
fitful dft-am of mortality is o’er, and he is passed
to his reward. As the grass cf the field, he has
lieen mown down, while yet in the morning of his
days, in the increasing vigor and expanding glory
of'manhood. Surrounded by circumstances of pros

what shadows we are—and what shadows we
pursue. ’ Irreparable is the loss sustained, and
manrarethe hearts wrung with bitterness ly ti :s
sudden and blighting visitation, and the sad note*
of mourning are now heard wailing up from t:
anguished bosom of a widow and aged lather and
an affectionate mother, together with little children
Brothers and sisters are now bowed with blanched
