•The Good News Trio will be in concert at Mt. Zion
Church in Danielsville Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. Everyone
is invited to attend. However, seating is limited, church lead

•Bethel M. Baptist Church, Wildcat Bridge Road, will
have a singing Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., featuring the
Porter Family. Members say all are invited.
•David’s Home P.H. Church, will have a singing on
Sunday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. Featured performers will be the
“Christian Way Singers.” For more information, contact the

at 1132 David’s Home Church Road, Comer.
•Colbert Grove Baptist Church will host the annual
Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Monday, Jan. 19,
beginning at noon. Church leaders also announce their second
annual “Youth Explosion” 2009 to celebrate and commemo
rate the life Dr. King. This event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan.
18, at 4 p.m. at Holly Creek Baptist Church, Comer. “We
are asking all youth leaders to help us make this an amazing
event by enlisting youth and young adults within their respec
tive churches,” leaders said. There will be singing, dancing,
stepping solo and a contest on three-minute speeches on “The
Dream. Please come out and help us and the young people
lift up the name of the Lord as we celebrate Dr. King and
the impact that he made within our communities.” Contact
Madison County Pastor and Laymen’s Fellowship vice-presi

•Gospel Tabernacle, Watson Mill Road, Carlton, will have
a singing on Friday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. Featured singers will
be the Marksmen, of Murrayville and local singers. “Come
bring a friend and enjoy a night of good gospel music,”
organizers said. “This group is only in this area a few times
each year, because of their travels over the country.” For more

Admission is free.
•Athens Christian Women’s Connection will hold a
brunch from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at Trumps at Shops of
South Milledge, 2026 South Milledge, Athens. The event will
feature a jewelry and accessory swap. Nikki Broun will speak
on overcoming depression and how to have victory in your
life regardless of the circumstances.” Tickets are $15 and

•Gordon’s Chapel UMC Youth will have a chicken mull
at the Sanford Community Center on Jan. 10, from 5-7 p.m.
Eat in is $6 for “all you can eat,” organizers said. Quarts to
go are also $6 each. There will also be a bake sale. All pro
ceeds got to benefit the youth program, organizers said. Call

Man with cake on face charged with battery
A Colbert man was arrested
on family violence charges
last week following a domes
tic incident at his Jack Sharp
Road home.
James Edward Brock Jr.,
41, 459 Jack Sharp Road,
was charged with one of sim
ple battery FVA.
According to the incident
report, Deputy Gary Floyd
met with Mr. Brock and his
wife. Mrs. Brock said she
and her husband got into an
argument and that he struck
her with a baseball bat but
“didn’t hit her hard.” He then
dropped the bat and punched
her in the face, she stated.
The deputy noted a clear
swollen bruise under her left
eye.
Brock, who appeared to
be intoxicated, had choco
late cake covering his entire
face according to the report.
When asked for his side of
the story, he informed the
deputy that he “couldn’t
remember.”
Mr. Brock was transported
to the Madison County Jail
and Mrs. Brock was taken
to Athens Regional Medical
Center where she was treated
for her injuries and released.

lifting.
•Roberto Carlos Gonzalez,

license withdrawn and failure
to obey a stop sign.
•Antonia Jaquise Martin,
19, 121 deer Creek Drive,
Apt. 22, Athens, driving with
out a license, no insurance,
expired vehicle tag or decal
and taillights required.

Danielsville, deposit account
fraud.
•Jonathan Rucker, 30, 193

and no insurance.

Burglary reported on Farm Road
A homeowner reported a
number of items taken from
his residence on Farm Road
Sunday.
According to the incident
report, deputy Michael Free
responded to the scene where
the homeowner showed him
where a lock had been broken
on a gate to his driveway.
A plasma TV, DVD player,
four-wheeler, and other items
with an estimated total value
of $8,200 were found missing
from the home.
