DAHLONEGA - Dorothy V.
Brady, 71, died Monday, February
2, 2009, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville,
following an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Lumpkin
County, she was bom on April
19, 1937, the daughter of the
late Leila Martin and Grover
Riddle. She was a member of
Oak Grove Baptist Church in
Lumpkin County. Mrs. Brady
was preceded in death by her
husband, Lucius Brady; a sister,
Ethel Riddle Mincey; brothers,
Willard R. Riddle, Lloyd Riddle,
L.G. Riddle and Flughes Riddle;
daughter, Marcia Cape Davis
Fletcher; and a son, Anthony
Scott Cape.
Survivors include sons,
Randy Cape, Talladega, Ala.,
and Alan Cape, Dahlonega;
daughter, Denise Cape Bangs
Brunner, Dahlonega; and step
son, Mike Brady, Sterrett, Ala.;
grandchildren, Leeland Davis,
Lawrenceville, Adrienne Davis

Gainesville, died Thursday,
January 29, 2009, at Elberta
Healthcare, following an extend
ed illness.
Born on May 20, 1920, in
Gillsville, she was the daughter
of the late Charlie and Dora
Brock Grier and was Baptist.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in
death by her husband, J.B.
Brown.

DANIELSVILLE
W.G. “Red” Casper, 73, died
Wednesday, January 28, 2009.
Born in Barrow County, he
was the son of the late James
Truman and Cora Maudeen
Jackson Casper. He was the
manager of the Magnolia Station
in Athens for a number of years.
Mr. Casper was preceded in
death by his wife, Johnnie Davis
Rice Casper.
Survivors include daughters,
Paula Caudell, Danielsville, and
Wendy Daniel, Colbert; sons,
Mark Rice, Jeff Rice and Grayson
Casper, all of Danielsville; sis
ter, Ann Finch, Athens; brother,

"Cleve” Rome Christian, 43, died
Thursday, January 29, 2009.
Born in Clarke County, he was
the son of Lou Ida and stepfather
John David Colvard of Hull,
and the late Brian W. Christian.
He was a pro wrestler. Psycho
Man, with the Future Wrestling
Federation, a coach for the
Auburn Dixie Youth Baseball
and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include addition to
his mother and stepfather, include

ELBERTON - James “Jake"
Thomas Conwell, 82, died
Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at
the Elbert County Memorial
Hospital.
A native of Madison County,
he was the son
of the late Alvin
and Ruby Mae
Lord Conwell.
He was a mem
ber and deacon of Doves Creek
Baptist Church, a United States
Army veteran serving in World
War II, and owner and operator
of Jake's Custom Crafts. Mr.
Conwell was preceded in death
by a brother, Dallas Conwell;
and sister, Ollie Mae Poss.
Survivors include his wife,
Virginia Baggett Conwell; sons
and daughters-in-law, Jerry and
Sherry Conwell, Ila, Larry and
Pat Conwell, Monroe; daughter
and son-in-law, Regina and Steve
Baughcum, Lexington, N.C.;
sister, Louise Conwell Sims,
Bogart; step-children, John and
Martha Baggett, Woodruff, S.C.,
and Connie and Stan Morse,
Watkinsville; 14 grandchildren;
and 18 great-grandchildren.

DANIELSVILLE - Woodrow
Wilson “W.W.” Culbertson, 90,
died Tuesday, January 27, 2009.
A native and lifelong resident
of Madison County, he was the
son of the late Tom and Lettie
Jane Fitzpatrick Culbertson. He
was the last survivor of eleven
siblings.
Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law, Billy and
Elaine Culbertson, Danielsville;
granddaughter and spouse,
Sherri and Greg Sutton, Dalton;
great-grandchildren, Christa and
Caitlyn.

M. Everett, 96, died Saturday,
January 31, 2009.
Born in Gwinnett County, she
was the daughter of the late
Nathan and Lillie Mae Ramey
Montgomery. She was the oldest
living member of Sharon Baptist
Church and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Everett was preceded in
death by her husband, Grover C.
Everett; and a son. Bill Everett.
Survivors include daughters,
Christine Greenwood, Hoschton,
and Mary Head, Jefferson;
nine grandchildren; 13 great
grandchildren; two great-great-
grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy
Driggers, Charleston, S.C.,
Doris Snell, Mansfield, and Avis
Pendley, Social Circle.

Garrett, 94, died Monday,
January 26, 2009, at Chestnut
Ridge Nursing Home in
Cumming.
She was a 65-year member of
Big Creek Baptist Church.

er, Reid Abernathy, Burlington,
N.C.; sister, Mae Shelton,

Myron Gilliland
BUFORD - Myron E.
Gilliland, 86, died Wednesday,
January 28, 2009.
Born on March 3, 1922, he
was the son of the late Lake
and Minnie Gilliland of Jackson
County. He married Latrelle
Thurmond on February 10, 1945,
and moved to the Buford area,
where he lived the remainder
of his life. He was a member of
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in
Buford, a former Sunday school
teacher and Sunday school super
intendent. Mr. Gilliland was pre
ceded in death by a brother, Paul
Gilliland, Buford; sister, Myrtie
Jones, Gainesville; and son-in-
law, Robert Brown, Buford.
As one of the last living work
ers of the Bona Allen “harness
shop", his name is engraved on
a statue of Roy Rogers, Trigger
and Jack Johnson, located in
historic Buford, commemorat
ing the saddle made for Trigger
by the Bona Allen Company in
the late 1940s. He then went to
work for General Motors at the
Doraville assembly plant, where
he was a member of UAW Local
10, and retired in 1980, after 32
years of service.
Survivors include his wife
of nearly 64 years, Latrelle
Thurmond Gilliland, Buford;
daughters and sons-in-law, Joan
Brown, Flowery Branch, Martha
Jo and Ronald Martin, Canon,
Judy and Jerry Parks, Buford;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Ricky and Janice Gilliland and
Ronny and Joan Gilliland, all of
Buford; sisters, Nell Heard and
Ola Adams, both of Buford; 14
grandchildren; 15 great-grand
children; and a host of nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, January 31, at Pleasant
Hill Baptist Church in Buford.
Burial was in the church cem
etery. Officiating ministers were
the Revs. Larry Waddell, Jody
Martin, Jack Pierce, and with
graveside services by the Rev.
Mark Hutchins.

2009.
Born in Banks County, he was
the son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Allen Bond and Ada Murray Hall.
He was a member of Statham
United Methodist Church,
a member and past Master of
Statham Masonic Lodge #634.
Mr. Hall retired in 1984 after 25
years of service with Southland
Life Insurance Company.
Survivors include his wife of
65 years, Laurene Luke Hall;

and Anne Hall, Charlotte, N.C.;

Born in Clarke County, she was
the daughter of the late James
A. and Mary O. Conner Rowe.
She was preceded in death by
siblings. Daphne Rowe and Stan
Savage. A member of Union
Baptist Church, she had been
employed as a paraprofession-
al with Bethlehem Elementary
School. She also worked in the
medical records and activity
department at Russell Nursing
Home, now Winder Health
Care, and as activities director at
Magnolia Estates.
Survivors include her husband,
Bobby J. Holliday, Statham; sons
and daughters-in-law, B.J. and
Teresa Holliday, Douglas, and
Russell and Michele Holliday,
Dacula; grandchildren, Katie
Holliday, Jonathon Holliday,
Connor Holliday and Ryan
Holliday; brothers. Bill Savage,
Gastonia, N.C., Danny Savage,

Terra Haute, Ind., he was the

Evelyn Hoopingarner. He was a
retired electrician and a member
of Brookton Baptist Church.

Marie Jones, 89, died Thursday,
January 29, 2009, at her son’s
residence in Woodworth, La.,
following a sudden illness.
Born on May 13, 1919, in
Jackson County, she was the
daughter of the late Herschel
and Lula Coffey Harper. She
was retired from the textile
industry and was a member of
Green Acres Baptist Church in
Athens. Mrs. Jones was pre
ceded in death by her husband
of 54 years, William Clarence
Hoopaugh Sr.; second husband
of 12 years, Willis Ledley Jones;
son, William Clarence Hoopaugh
Jr.; and grandson, Craig Sailers.

Tommy Love, 60, died Tuesday,
January 27, 2009.
He was the son of Barney and
Gladys Love. He was a mem
ber of the Tabernacle Church in
Lawrenceville, was a Vietnam
Veteran, and worked for Wal-
Mart as a cart
attendant and
people greeter
for seven years
at the Sugarloaf
and Snellville stores. He loved
fishing and collecting cars, coins,
coke and Georgia bulldogs mem
orabilia, and his grandchildren
were his life, loved ones stated.
Mr. Love was preceded in death
by a brother, David Love.
Survivors include his wife,
Rose Love, Lawrenceville;
children, Angel and Shawn
Cummings, Lawrenceville,
Melodie and Shawn Otteson,
Monroe; sister and brother-in-
law, Lynda and Grover Wood,
Danielsville; grandchildren.

Hospital.
Born on August 20, 1923, in
Franklin County, he was the son
of the late Rev. Samuel Edgar and
Mary Ella Atkinson Macomson.
He worked for Coats and Clark
of Toccoa for 35 years and was
a member of the Liberty Baptist
Church. Mr. Macomson was pre
ceded in death by a brother,

Harley Kelley, Rachel McCall,
Pauline Toney, Blanche Adams,

following a sudden illness.
Mr. Martin was a 1974 grad
uate of Dawson County High
School and was employed as a
commercial truck driver. He was
a member of Hopewell Baptist
Church in Ruby, S.C., and was
preceded in death by his parents,
Millard and Irene Martin.

George Matzner
HILTON HEAD, S.C.
- George A. Matzner III, for
merly of Pocomoke City, died
Wednesday, January 28, 2009,
at Palm Meadows Village on
Hilton Head Island.
Born in High Point, N.C., on
June 4, 1928,
he was the
son of the late
Cleo Ridge
and George A.
Matzner Jr. In 1999 he moved to
Winder, where he lived for seven
years before moving to Hilton
Head in 2006. He was United
States Navy veteran and worked
as a civilian for the Navy from
1956-1959, as a personnel spe
cialist. In 1959, he joined NASA
as a personnel officer at Wallops
Flight Center in Wallops Island,
where he worked for 32 years
until his retirement in 1991. Mr.
Matzner was preceded in death
by his wife of 44 years, Arlene
Bennett Metzner.
Survivors include daughter and
son-in-law, Melissa and Thomas
Buchanan, Bluffton, S.C.; fos
ter sister, Sue Todd, Knightdale,
N.C., and her daughter, Lisa
May of Middlesex, N.C.; sis-
ter-in-law, Inez Weaver, South
Boston; nephews and their fami
lies, Donald Weaver, Halifax,
Va., and Robert Weaver, Boynton
Beach, Fla.; and a cousin, Teresa
Glasco, Sanford, N.C.

daughter of the late Claude
Elisha and Minnie Bell Buice.
Mrs. McDaniel was preceded
in death by her husband, Otis
H. McDaniel, brothers, Winford
Buice and Jake Buice; sisters,
Edith Millican, Martha Ledford
and Catherine Watkins.
