Relay for Life yard sale set
for Saturday
at Huddle House
There will be a Relay for Life benefit yard
sale Saturday, April 4, beginning at 7 a.m. on
the front lawn of the Huddle House, Hwy. 29
North, Danielsville. All proceeds go to benefit the
American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life,
according to organizers.
BRWA annual river
cleanup planned
The Broad River Watershed Association
(BRWA) will hold its annual river cleanup on
Saturday, April 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Organizers say participants should meet at the
Broad River Outpost, Hwy. 281, Danielsville.
Join BRWA and Emerging Green Builders
(a group of students and young professionals
involved in Athens’ green building movement)
to do a cleanup of the upper five-mile section of
the Broad River. Canoes can be rented from the
Broad River Outpost (BRO) for $10 per person
(including transportation, paddles, pfd’s, etc.).
“Dress for a day on the river and bring a change
of clothing - it’s an easy stretch, but you never
know," organizers said. "Bring a lunch for a picnic
along the river.”
Directions to BRO: take Hwy. 29 North from
Danielsville for two miles, turn right on Hwy. 281.
BRO is located on the right at the Broad River
bridge. Reserve your spot by contacting the BRO

Senior Center annual plant
sale ahead
The Eloise McCurley Senior Center will have its
annual plant sale Wednesday - Friday, April 15 -
17. The plant sale will be held at the senior center
at 1265 W. Hwy. 98, Danielsville.
Fund-raiser for children’s
hospital set for April 18
A fund-raiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital
will be held Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to
11:30 a.m. at the Hull-Sanford Elementary School
track.
"Bring your own trike/or other riding toys,”
organizers said.
Those wanting to help sponsor the event can

Class of ’94 to hold reunion
The Madison County High School Class of 1994
will have its 15-year class reunion May 16. All
graduates interested in attending can either email

The Eloise McCurley Senior
Center has announced its lunch
menu and planned activities for
Monday, April 6, through Friday,
April 10.
Monday - Ham and scalloped
potato casserole, broccoli cuts,
stewed tomatoes, wheat bread,
orange and low fat milk.
Fitness/puzzles/cards.
Tuesday - Smoked sausage,
steamed cabbage, seasoned carrots
and potatoes, hot dog bun, fresh
banana and low fat milk.
UGA nutrition/puzzles/fitness/
cards.
Wednesday - Oven roasted
chicken, black-eyed peas with turkey
ham, turnip greens, wheat bread,
pineapple cup and low-fat milk.
Fitness/puzzles/games.
Thursday - Blended juice,
spaghetti with meat sauce,
cauliflower with red pepper, green
beans, wheat bread, chocolate chip
cookie and low-fat milk.
ARMC fitness and blood pressure
check.
Friday - Holiday.
4-H Club offers
discounted
White Water tickets
The Madison County 4-H Club
has discounted White Water tickets
available. Adult youth and senior
regular season White Water tickets
are $30 each.
White Water opens on May 23 and
the gate prices for this year are as
follows: adults, $39.99 plus tax, youth
(under 48 inches) and senior citizens
(over 55) are $26.99 plus tax.
Children under 2 are admitted free.
Gate prices are expected to rise as
the season continues, club members
noted.

by the office on Sunset Drive in
Danielsville (old health department
building).
Transfer station
to accept leaflimb
debris free of charge
The Madison County Solid Waste
Transfer Station is accepting leaff
limb debris (no construction debris)
from the recent snowstorm free of
charge through April 24.
Leaf and limb debris includes trees,
limbs/branches, leaves and stumps.
Leaf and limb debris may be brought
to the station during regular operating
hours (Wednesday - Saturday, 7 a.m.
- 5 p.m.) and during this six-week
period only, leaf and limb debris will
also be accepted on Monday and
Tuesdays from 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
at no charge. No solid waste will be
accepted on Monday and Tuesday.
"We want the citizens to know
that we are here to help but that there
are special instructions they must
follow - such as keeping storm debris
separated,” transfer station director
Sandra Webb said. "Any building or
construction debris must go to a C
and D landfill.’’
Leaf and limb mles for the transfer
station include: no loads accepted
after 5:30 p.m.; no household garbage
or other debris is to be dumped with
leaf and limb debris; the load must
be secured; patrons must weigh in
and out of the dumping area; this
service is available to Madison
County citizens only; debris must be
unloaded yourself and must contain
only trees, stumps, leaves, branches,
etc. No construction debris.

Law Day essay
contest announced
The law office of Warren C.
Caswell announces that it is once
again sponsoring a Law Day Essay
Contest for local students.
All high school students in Madison,
Franklin, Oglethorpe, Elbert, Hart,
Jackson and Banks counties are
eligible. Entries are due by April 15
and winners will be announced on
Law Day, May 1. Full details are

topic was selected in honor of the
bicentennial anniversary of President
Abraham Lincoln’s birth and asks
entrants: "Which of the 13 th , 14* or
15* amendments to the Constitution
is the most important and why?”
Further, entrants are asked to explain
how their selected amendment affects
their life and the lives of those around
them every day. First prize is a $500
cash scholarship and second prize is a
$200 U.S. Savings Bond.
Action, Inc. garden
program
Action, Inc., will take applications
for its garden program, April 7 - 9,9
a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Applicants must being proof of
income for each person over 18 years
old and proof of all Social Security
numbers for each person in their
household, according to officials.

discounted
Six Flags tickets
The Madison County 4-H Club
is once again offering discount Six
Flags tickets. Each regular season
ticket (adult, youth, senior) is $30.
The gate prices for the 2009 Six
Flags season currently are: adults,
$39.99 plus tax and youth (under
48 inches) and senior citizens (over
55 years old) are $29.99 plus tax.
Children under 2 are admitted free,
officials said.

GREENE HONORED BY MASONIC LODGE
Gene Greene, a member of John H. Jones Masonic Lodge
in Danielsville, was presented an apron on March 19 for
60 years of active service. Greene is the first member of
the lodge to be presented with a 60-year apron.
ROTARIANS PICK UP TRASH
Madison County Rotarians (along with a couple of
family members) picked up trash along Hwy. 29 near
Diamond Hill ball park. Those in attendance were
