Couple faces family violence charges
A Carlton couple was
arrested on family violence
charges last week after an
incident at their home.
Michael Leonard Lawrence,
39, and Michelle Renee
Mack, 40. 688 Paoli Road,
were charged with one count
each of aggravated assault
and cruelty to children.
According to the incident
report, the couple, who've
been living together for
16 years, got into a fight
after Mack discovered that
Lawrence had a child with
another woman.
The pair began wres
tling with each other in the
bedroom and one of them
grabbed a pair of scissors.
At one point, Mack said
Lawrence grabbed her around
the neck and began to choke
her. Mack's daughter ran into
the room and attempted to
break up the fight and all
three fell onto the bed during
the struggle. Both subjects
were arrested and taken to the
Madison County Jail.
In another arrest, Harley
Doyle England, 21, 153 West
Briarwood Lane, Nicholson,
was charged with theft by tak
ing, failure to drive within a
single lane, leaving the scene
of an accident and DUI, after
he allegedly took his father’s
vehicle without permission
and wrecked it.
According to the incident
report, deputy Timothy Pan-
found a man passed out in the
cul de sac. While at the scene,
England’s father approached
deputy Parr and told him he
needed to come to the house to
see his son. Once questioned,
England confessed that he
had taken the vehicle without
permission and hit a fence on
Nowhere Road. Deputy Pan-
noted that England appeared
to be intoxicated and that he
failed a field sobriety test.
He was taken to the Madison
County Jail and booked. His
passenger was escorted to the
Clarke County line.

sion of a controlled substance
(oxycodone), possession,
manufacture, distribution,
etc. VGCS methamphet-
amine with intent to distrib
ute, possession of marijuana,
possession of tools for the
commission of a crime and
possession of Schedule II

amphetamine.

Hunter charged with reckless conduct, trespassing
Danielsville man killed
in Clarke Co. accident
A Danielsville man was killed in a car accident on Hwy. 29 in
Clarke County Wednesday morning.
Mark Highland, 27, died at the intersection of Hwy. 29 and
Hwy. 72 at approximately 4 a.m. Wednesday after his car was
hit on the driver’s side by a pickup track.
According to a press release from the Athens-Clarke County
Police Department, Highland drove his 1996 Buick Regal east
on Hull Road into the intersection at Hwy. 72. His car was struck
by a Chevrolet K1500 driven by Billy C. Smith, Royston, who
was traveling south on Hwy. 29. The accident remains under
investigation.

A hunter was charged
with reckless conduct after
he allegedly shot a track on
Willis Glenn Road as two
men stood nearby.
Milton Dwayne Pierce,
19, 143 Lombardy Drive,
Athens, was charged with
two counts of reckless con
duct and one count of crimi
nal trespass.
According to the incident
report, when deputy Gary
Floyd asked Pierce why he
was firing a weapon in the
direction of a populated resi
dential area, he stated that
he “was an inexperienced
hunter and didn't think the
bullets would travel that far.”
The bullet from the rifle was
found to have went com
pletely through a rear door
of the work track into the
bulkhead of the inner door
frame.
In another incident, a
woman on Collins Bridges
Road called 911 last week
to report that her brother was
threatening to kill her for
“tattooing his wife.”
According to the inci
dent report, deputy Michael
Moore responded to the
scene where the woman said
her brother had called her
about five times that day to
tell her that he was going “to
smash her head in until her
eyes popped out” and “that
when she was found they
wouldn’t know her.”
Deputy Moore spoke with
the brother, who said he
didn’t want to hurt his sister
and that he was just upset
about the tattoo. He said he
didn’t tell her he was going
to kill her.
The sister was advised of
the warrant process and the
process for a Temporary
Protection Order.

The Madison County Board of Education invites you to participate in a bid
for the removal, disposal and replacement of roofing at lla Elementary
School, 150 Sewell Mill Road, lla, GA 30647. Detailed bid specifications can
