Santa to visit
Colbert Dec. 4
Santa Claus will pay a visit
to the historic depot in Colbert
Friday, Dec. 4, from 6-8 p.m. He
will arrive on a Colbert Volunteer
Fire Department truck to visit
with young and old alike and
participants can have their photo
made with Santa, organizers said.
Holiday streetlights will be lit for
the first time this season and there
will also be free refreshments.
“Hear Colbert's new Christmas
story, illustrated by local school
children,” organizers said. Winners
of the second and third grade
Colbert Elementary school contest
will be announced and prizes
awarded.
Organizers say that all children
attending must be accompanied
by an adult.

Christmas benefit
concert to be held
Dec. 5
The Bobby Compton Band will
present a Christmas benefit concert
entitled “Giviri Out Loud - Bending
Strings for Christmas Things,”
Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in the
Madison County Middle School
Gym. The concert will also include
performances by special guest Joe
Olds and The Smokin’ Joe Band.
Admission: bring a toy for Christmas
for a Madison County child in need,
organizers said. "All toys collected
stay right here in Madison County,”
organizers said.
' ‘Have you ever woke up Christmas
morning, went to look under the tree
and (found) nothing there,” Bobby
Compton asked. “My family has
always been fortunate to provide me
and my brothers with gifts...Not
saying that I always got what I asked
for, but we always had presents to
open.”
“That’s the idea of ‘Bending
Strings for Christmas Things,” a toy
drive that will provide children in
Madison County with an opportunity
to unwrap a Christmas gift,’ ’ Compton
added.
Colbert Vet Rescue
to hold Christmas
Bazaar
Colbert Vet Rescue will hold a
Christmas Bazaar in the fellowship
hall at Crossroads Church on Hwy.
29 between Ingles and Athens
Christian School from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. Dec. 12. There will be pictures
with Santa for children and pets, craft
gifts, jewelry, new and used yard
sale items, a holiday bake sale and
furniture.
Bruce, Busby
engagement
announced
Suzi Kilgore and Robert
Bruce announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Shelby
Sue Bruce, to Jeremy Scott
Busby, son of Connie and Jerry
Busby. Both families are resi
dents of Madison County.
Miss Bruce and Mr. Busby
are both graduates of Madison
County High School. Miss
Bruce is attending the University
of Georgia and Mr. Busby is
attending Athens Technical
College.
The wedding is planned for
May 22,2010 at 6 p.m. at Camp
Kiwanis in Danielsville.

Military service
Scarborough
completes Air
Force basic training
Air Force Airman 1st Class John
D. Scarborough Jr. graduated from
basic military training at Lackland
Air Force Base, San Antonio,
Texas.
The airman completed an inten
sive, eight-week program that
included training in military dis
cipline and studies. Air Force core
values, physical fitness, and basic
warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic
training earn four credits toward an
associate in applied science degree
through the Community College of
the Air Force, Scarborough earned
distinction as an honor graduate.
He is the son of John and Gwen
Scarborough of Prospect Road,
Colbert. Scarborough is a 2004
graduate of Madison County High
School, Danielsville.
