She was born in Banks

1935, the daughter of the
late Elmer and Bobbie Wood
Davis. She was retired from
Griffin Technical College
and was a member of the
Damascus Christian Church,
Griffin.
Survivors include her hus
band, Walter Lee Mason;

Ellen and James Crawford,
Karen and Chris Rogers, all
of Griffin, Gary and Monica
Mason, Williamson; 11
grandchildren, five great
grandchildren; brother and

County.

Gordon Melton, “Papa
Joe,” 85, died Wednesday,
December 9, 2009.
A native of Clarke County,
he had lived in Madison
County most of life. He was
the son of the late Henry
Gordon and Arnettie Melton.
Mr. Melton was preceded
in death by his wife, Edna
Merle Payne Melton; and
a daughter, Cheryl Elaine
Melton. He was a member of
the Hull Baptist Church.

was co-owner with his wife
of Ann’s Flower Shop. He
was a veteran, having served
in the United States Navy.

Mary Hathaway, Michigan;
son, Tim Ramas, Michigan;
six grandchildren; broth

Industries. Mr. Minish was

1927, in Banks County,
he was the son of the late
Herschel and Elsie Lane
Payne. He was a graduate
of Baldwin High School and
was a veteran having served
in the United States Navy
during World War II. He was
a member of the Line Baptist
Church and was a retired
poultry and cattle farmer. He
was a former board mem
ber of the B.J.C. Medical
Center Board with 15 years
of service and a former mem
ber of the Banks County
Cattlemen’s Association. Mr.
Payne was preceded in death
by a brother, Alec Payne.
Survivors include his wife
and dedicated companion of
61 years, Lurlene Ward Payne,
Hollingsworth Community;
daughters and sons-in-law,
Kay House and the Rev. Tim
House, Gillsville. Kim and
Andy Harris, Baldwin; son
and daughter-in-law, Eddie
and Jane Payne, Clarkesville;
sister and brother-in-law,

He was
a mem

Commerce
Church
of Christ.
He had
retired from Jackson
County as a Correctional
Officer, served for many
years on the Commerce
Planning Commission,
and was a former member
of the Commerce Board of
Education. He received the
Volunteer of the Year award
from the Commerce City
School System, where he had
donated many hours of his
time including driving school
buses. Until declining health
prevented him from working,
he was a cherished member
of the staff at Ivie Funeral
Home. He was a loving hus
band, father and grandfather,
loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife,
Mary Seabolt, Commerce;
son and daughter-in-law,
Philip and Kim Seabolt,
Commerce; daughter and
son-in-law, Kim and Bobby
Caudell, Commerce; broth

mer Macon resident, where
she attended The Church of

as chairman of the board
of deacons, and was the
church office clerk for many
years. She was active as an
encourager at Cedar Creek
Baptist Church where she
was a member. Mrs. Upton
was a retired Employment
Interviewer with The Georgia
Department of Labor.
