A Warning to
Married Men.
The wife of a Kansas City mau
has got a divorce from him for
good but strange cause. The
head and front of his offending
her is this: “Whenever I asked
for anything (says the lady) I
always got it without question.”
Naturally she wearied of “that
kind of humdrum existence.”
The excellent man was too tame
and pigeonlivered. The lady
pined to be contradieted. She
wearied of perpetual summer and
“having her own way" always.
A solemn and needed warning 1
Oh, our brothers in the married
state 1 Lest half of it secede, be
not too yielding and suave I Play
the “blustering, Bubbly Jock”
occasionally. The chief failing of
us men is that we are too good for
the world and to our womenfolk I

The Silent Drum.
At a dinner given by Gen.
Corbip in honor bf bis staff and
the foreign military attaches, says
the Philadelphia Ledger, the
conversation turned to wartime
foraging, when one of those present
told this tale:
“There was much joking among
the veterans gathered in Boston
in August. One told about a
captain and a certain drummer.
This drummer could almost make
• drum • talk. There was hardly
his equal iu the army. Hence on
every occasion of importance he
was put upon conspicuous poet,
aue by his great skill with the
drumsticks he reflected credit on
his company.
If mhirttiy one morning entered
• osuquered town. The tanned
heroes stepped out splendidly.
Tb$ sidewalks were erowded with
lot ;:enFSlf> fThe drums aud fifes
tilled the air with brisk, inspirit
ing musio.
'This is all good musio, sir,’
remarked the oaptaiu to the colo
nel, ‘but I want to eall your at
tention; to my drummer. There
he is—the till fellow with red
hair.’ !
“They both looked at the drum
mer. aud he wasu’t drumming at
all. Hia stioks were thrust iu his
hip poofcjlU, and he marched idly
and gaily along, winking at the
girls. I ■'
" ‘Sergeant,’ oried the captain,
angrily, $jo over to the drummer
and seeflhy he is neglecting his
duty ipt its shameful way.’
“The isrgeant, on hia return,
whispore in the eaptain’s ear:
“‘He as two geese and4 tur
key in b i drum, and he says the
turkey ii Jor you.’
- “The onitaiu glanced hastily at
the oolouijl to soo if the whisper
had been! overheard. Then he
said in a Bud, pleasant voice:
“‘Oh, Bll, why didn’t he say
before tln|he had rheumatism iu
