Judge Qeo. C. Thomas.
Gov. Terrell never made a more
or more .atisfactory an ap-
intmont than when he placed
ndge George C. Thomas m the
ition of Solioitor of the City
mrt of this oity. The Judge
lived amongst ns for many
, and his life has been as an
open book. Honest, honorable,
faithful and oapable as he is, and
as he has been honored time and
again by the pnoole, makes the
appointment to them most satia
faotory. For years he has been
known as among the most eminent
oriminal lawyers of the state, and
his services have been sought for
far and wide by people who have
been so unfortunate as to have
been in trouble end the only re
grets at his appointment is by
those who will need his services
in defending them at the bar of
justice. We congratulate the peo
ple npon his selection, feeling fall
well that their every interest will
be subserved so far as it lies in his
power to do it. Of course this
appointment does not hinder him
praoticing in the higher courts in
any capacity. With Judge Cobb
on the benoh and Judge Thomas
\ as proseoutor the evil doers would
do well to cease from their wrong
doings, or yon will feel the strong
arm oi the law as sure as you live

* while’ most of ns were enjoying,
these God-given blessings,
minds went ont to the poor, an
our thoughts were more vividly 1
brought to them by the faot that
some of Athens noble-hearted
women, assisted by some as true
men, were looking forward to their
comfort, by raising funds to help
them help themselves. There are
the sick and afflicted, and the
poor who are among us, who dread
the approaoh of winter because of
their inability to cope with its
ravages, and as is usual woman’s
heart and woman’s energy has
sought a way for relief.
The bazaar this week was a
grand Bnccess. The lodge of Bike,
an institution organised for no
other purpose, but pure charity,
and the relief of want was behind
the movement and we are deV
lighted in their success, not a
cent of the proceeds will be re
ceived by the Bike, as every penny
will go into the hands of the good
women who will proceed to 01
Alderman Vonderan’e right arm
is very sore from shaking the
hands of his hundreds of friends
who have congratulated him npon
tho manly stand he took npon the
“mnzzle ordinance.” It only
brought out more foreibly the
man that was in him in daring to.
do the right, and whatever some
disgruntled politicians may say
about him will be only like pour
ing water on a ducks baok, so far
as the people are concerned. You
may paste that inyonr bat.
The Daughters of the Revolu
tion who have jnst met in Athens
were more than welcome gneste in
our oity. They are keeping alive
the names of the noble men who
spilt their life-blood to give us a
free and great country. These
are noble women and true, and
we hope that their numbers may
grow until they take in every true
daughter of America iu this body.
