Emcees for the glittering
four-hour show were

Baths International 1974
title, Bruce Eden.
Hundreds of spectators
crowded for the best seats
as the dazzling spectacular
of contestants, en
tertainers, and production
numbers unfolded non-stop.
Included in the prestigious
roster of those performing
were Daphne Delight, Noly
Greer, Josephine Baker,
and Sex Incorporated, a
trio from St. Louis:
The show was opened
with the vocal artistry of
famed photographer David
Vance’s performance of the
popular song “The Singer”
was met with the
thunderous applause that
was t© punctuate the show
throughout.
In fact, it was audience
response that forced the
only deviation from the
from the program during
the evening. The executive
director of the Club Bath
Chain, r Jerry Batal, was
forced to call an
unscheduled 10 - minute
intermission at the request
of the audience, who needed
a “powder room” break,
but were afraid of missing
part of the show.
Scenic design credits
went to David garrison,
who outfitted the ballroom

Then, with performers,
contestants and CBC
officials scattered onstage
and through the audience,
all joined into a hand
holding, raised-arm per
formance of “United We
Stand. ’'
Three encores of the
number were necessary as
audience members joined in
the s.inging and, in many
cases, tears of joyful pride
that concluded an evening
none present will ever
forget.

dozens of 20-foot plants;
colorful backdrops; giant
animals, both stuffed and
plywood; and a 50-foot
runway ramp that extended
into the audience .
An outrageous army of
performers, everything
from a fire-baton twirler
and roller skating nun to a
baby crib processional and
a cowboy with a live calf
made their way down the
ramp during the evening.
Show highlights also in
cluded the performance of
“Leader of The Pack” by
the delightfully hefty trio
Sex Incorporated. The
number was enhanced by
the intricate strobe
lighting director Joe Costa.
Noly Greer’s “baby
crib” company heightened
excitement by throwing
more than 150 large
stuffed animals into the
audience. While Tiffany
Jones expanded her famous
roller skating nun routine
by adding two additional
nunclad performers as

“stars” also stunned those
present, including a 19-
foot break-away banana, a
stage-engulfing smoke
screen, slide projector
presentations, and large
paper backdrops through
which performers made
“smashing” entrances.
But despite all the glitter
and levity, the emotional
highlight of the evening was
one of quiet reflection and
unity.
Executive director of the
show. Jerry Batal, brought
Club Bath Chain president
Jack Campbell onto the
stage. Batal proceeded to
read a statement from
Campbell concerning the
Club Bath Chain and the
community that brought
audience members to their
feet in emotional support.
