Members of the Sorosis Club met
Thursday, Feb. 24, at the New
Perry Hotel for their February
monthly business meeting and
luncheon.
Betty Day presided, over the meet
ing. Discussion covered member
ships and whether to re-print the
often-called-for Sorosis Cook Bode.
Member Mamie Muse celebrated
her birthday on February 14. She
is a resident of Brian Nursing Home
in Jeffersonville, Ga.

Feb. 24 Meeting
Mama Makes Up Her Mind was
the book reviewed for Book
Browsers by Evelyn Rosebrock on
Feb. 25 at the New Perry Hotel. It
was written by Bailey White, a
Georgia author, broadcaster for
public radio and first grade teacher.
Mrs. Rosebrock gave information
about Ms. White's background and
read several excerpts from this
delightful book.
Hostesses for this meeting were
Mrs. Rosebrock, Marjorie Rogers,
Bette Day and Kay Allen. President
Elizabeth Talton presided.

was groomsman.
After a reception at Houston Lake
Country Club in Perry, and a
wedding trip to Las Vegas, Nev,
the couple is living in Fort Valley.

engagement
The bride-elect is the daughter of
Jeri and Marvin Lavender of Fort
Valley . She is the granddaughter
of Sadie Blakston of Reynolds the
late Gordon Blacks ton and the late
Eva Maude and Rufus Lavender of
Fort Valley. She is a graduate of
The Westfield Schools in Perry.
The groom-elect is the son of Ruth
and Harris Sledge and the grandson
of Willie Mae Jenkins of Macon,
the late Wilson Harris Sledge of
Byron and the late Lillian Martin
and the late George Tharpley of
Unadilla.
The wedding is planned for May
14 at Byron United Methodist
Church in Byron.
-To Carrie Laura Walker and
Bivens Walker of Perry, who
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on Feb. 5. THeir
children and grandchildren gave
them a dinner party at Shoney’s
restaurant.
Walker and the former Carrie
Roberts were married Jan.. 20,
1944 at the Houston County
Courthouse.

the birth of their daughter, Lauren
Kelly, on Wednesday, February 16.

Mrs. Mildred Bork recently
celebrated her 80th birthhday in
Fort Worth, Texas, with her
daughters, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. She says that she
plans to have all of them come to
Perry to help her celebrate her 81st.
