The kids seem to take region ball

Even so, Brown said the Hornets
were giving up cheap runs and
cheap innings. "We weren't making
routine plays," he said. "We were
able to do that (make routine plays)
in the Monroe game and that made
all the difference in the world.”
The Hornets wasted no time in
jumping out in front. Leadoff man
Shepley singled to start the game.
One out later, Nuss connected on a
Monroe pitch to give Westfield the
early 2-0 lead.
The Hornets would add three
more runs in the third to pad their
lead to 5-0. Thad Hawk, batting in
the nine hole, would lead the inning
off with a double. Walks to Shep
ley and Nuss would load the bases
for the visitors.
Hawk would score on a Jake
Walls single. Dehem hit into a
fielder's choice at second for the
second out. Shepley crossed the
plate for the Hornets on the play.
The final run of the inning would
score when Monroe misplayed a
Talton grounder to short, allowing
Nuss to cross the plate.

year of playing well for the first
half of the game and then allowing

seemed like the owner of the struc

costs of re-location. But, after look

not the case. They (Oglethorpe

Stafford added that, although this

from the contingency fund, the next
three installments will be included
in future county budgets.

Small businesses like the corner
convenience store, like this newspa
per, like the hometown furniture
dealer, like the car dealer, like most,
if not all, of the businesses you past
today. Chances are you work in a
small business.
In order to get jobs, we have got
to encourage small business. Unfor
tunately, we seem to, by tax law and
regulation, wish to drive the small
business out of business. It is no
small wonder, with all the govern
ment mandates and taxes that have
hit small business in the last few
years, that we have an unemploy
ment rate as low as it is.
Instead of capital gains taxes on
small business, we need a tax sys
tem that encourages citizens with a
modest amount of wealth to invest
in small businesses. Safety and
health is one thing, but we need to
make sure that rules and regulations
enhance safety and health, not the
ego of some governmental bureau
crat, that rules and regulations arc
there to give someone something to
do.
If President Clinton is serious
about creating jobs, he will look to
free small business to create jobs.
You see, the smaller the business,
the more labor intensive the enter
prise.
the other team to win the game.
Tuesday afternoon it appeared that
history would repeat itself.
After scoring once in the bottom
of the fourth on two hits, Monroe
put four runners across the plate in
the bottom of the fifth to tie the
game at five. Although Monroe
would have two doubles in the in
ning, two key errors by the Hornets
opened the door for three of the four
runs.
Talton started the game, going
five full innings before leaving the

Bears with both runners scoring.
They had moved up to third and
second on a Varnadoe wild pitch.
Three more runs in the fourth
sealed the win for the Panthers, and
again it was a hit batsman and a
walk that put runners on base as
Varnadoe experienced control

He gave up just four hits, but
didn't help his cause with five
walks and four hit batsmen, along
with five Houston County errors.

runs, two earned, on seven hits. He
struck out two and walked two.
Staines started the sixth inning
for the Hornets and finished the
game. In his two innings of work,
he did not allow a run, giving up
two singles.
Once again, Nuss led the Hor

twice.
The Panthers play Appling

coach Jones said "Brett is going to
have to come back and give us a
couple of innings, at least, on
Saturday".
The coach also said "I'm pleased
with the progress our young team
has made this early. We're getting
down to some crucial region games
now, and we have to keep playing
heads-up and cut out the mental
mistakes, and we will be alright."
Jones is in his fourth year as
Perry's head coach. He engineered a
