Buster E Davis 111
Davis participates
in homecoming
activities at BPC
Buster E. Davis, 111, of Perry,
was chosen for the 1994
Homecoming Court at Brewton-
Parker College. Mr. Davis, a
junior majoring in business
administration, is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Buster Davis, Jr. of Perry.
At BPC, Buster is a Student
Government Association Senator, a
member of the Council of
Presidents, and is Vice-President of
Delta Sigma Chi. He is also
President of the Student Activities
Council.
The BPC Homecoming Court,
elected by vote of the student body,
consists of both male and female
representatives of the freshman,
sophmore, junior and senior
classes.
Brewton-Parker was founded in
1904, and is a four-year, liberal arts
institution, affiliated with the
Georgia Baptist Convention,
offering Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor
of Science, Bachelor of Music and
Bachelor of Ministry degrees as
well as Associates degrees in Arts,
Science, and Applied Science.
Byrd to entertain
in Ft. Valley during
'Picnic in the Park'
"Picnic in the Park," sponsored
by Fort Valley Main Street, will be
held on Wendesday, April 20 from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Food and
drink vendors will be on site for a
refreshing afternoon lunch in the
Downtown triangle park.
Entertainment will be provided
by singer/musician Eddie Byrd.

Marine Cpl. James T. Barry, son
of James T. and Rita Barry of
Bonaire, was recently promoted to
his present rank while serving with
4th Maintenance Battalion 4th
Force Service Support Group, 4th
Marine Division, Augusta, Ga.
He joined the Marine Corps in
June 1988.

Navy Perry Officer Ist Class
David Wilson, son of Gene and
Rosa M. Wilson of Perry, recently
reported for duty aboard the
destroyer tender USS Shenandoah,
homeported in Norfolk, Va.
Wilson joined the Navy in
October 1982.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class
David Latimore, whose wife,
Tammie, is the daughter of Ruth
Sutton of Perry, recently reported
for duty aboard the aircraft carrier
USS Enterprise, homeported in
Norfolk, Va
Pvt. Askew completes
Army basic training
At Columbia, S.C. Army Pvt.
Nortrell L. Askew has completed
basic training.
During the training, students
received instruction in drill and
ceremonies, weapons, map reading,
tactics, military courtesy, military
justice, first aid, and Army history
and traditions.
Askew is the son of Jessie J.
Askew of Perry.
Askew is a 1992 graduate of
Perry High School.
Spring celebration under
way at Callaway Gardens
Spring has sprung at Callaway
Gardens! With the beginning of
Spring Celebration and the
blooming of the spectacular display
of azaleas, the season is in full
swing. The first weekend of Spring
Celebration, "Gardening Weekend,"
March 25 and 26, was a treat for
all. In addition to the weekend's
main event, the annual Volunteer
Plant Fair and Sale, other acticities
such as Discovery Tables,
Hummingbird Programs and
"Spring for a Sprout" attracted
visitors from throughout the
Southeast.
During Spring Celebration's
second weekend, "Environmental
Adventures," April 2 and 3, guests
enjoyed performances by
environmental entertainer "Billy B.”
The highly popular Easter Egg
Hunt and the annual Easter Sunrise
Service were also well attended.
More than 15,000 visitors
enjoyed the excitement of these
weekends and the natural beauty of
the azaleas. Citing a 30 percent
increast in attendance as compared
to the same weekends in 1993,
Roger Childers, Vice President of
Sports and Recreation comments,
"The increased attendance for the
first two weekends of Spring
Celebration is credited to the
wonderful activities and variety of
family-oriented programs Callaway
Gardens has to offer. We look
forward to the next three fun-filled

Weekend," April 9 and 10, will
feature presentations on Spaceship
Earth by Mike Weilbacher, scientist
and performer. Steve Hoddy and his

Spring Celebration 1993, will be
the highlight of "This is for the
Birds Weekend," April 16 and 17.
Callaway Gardens' own Season
