Cooking is Frances Brock's 'comfort zone'
By PAULINE LEWIS
Staff Writer
Frances Williams Brock, mother
of Joey Brock of Perry, is the
Houston Times-Journal Cook of
the Week.
Originally from Virginia, and now
of Red Springs, N.C., she graduated
from Red Springs High School and
Flora MacDonald College. (Flora
MacDonald College merged with
two other colleges to become St.
Andrews Presbyterian College in
Laurinburg, N. C.)
She married Wilton Brock of Red
Springs and they have three chil
dren—two boys and one girl, and
now have six grandchildren.
Frances worked at Red Springs
Presbyterian Church for 35 years.
She was originally hired as Church
Educator, but ended up doing secre
tarial work and bookkeeping, as
well.
Her parents are in their eighties.
Her mother and grandmother were
both good cooks and Frances says
that she always liked to cook-cook
ing is her "comfort zone". She
started cooking when she was eight
or nine years old. She cooked sup
per for the family each night when
she was in high school, except dur
ing basketball season when she
played on the team as guard because
of her height.
She sings in her church’s choir,
likes to read, walk and do aerobics
twice each week.
She still does some catering for
friends and some cake baking. She
is catering a wedding in May.
Her husband likes to garden, refin
ish furniture, do yard work and is
now re-finishing rooms in their
home. He was formerly a book
keeper, has been retired five or six
years, but manages to stay busy.
