died Monday, May 2, 1994. Bars a Dublin, she was the daughier of the
iae Wilbm and Emmie Hartman. She was a retired employee of Robots
Air Force Base and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Women of
Moose and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Sarvhors: children, Margaret Sasser of Aasseil, and Andy Norman of
Coiambus. Ohio; brothers and aster, Paul Hartman of Perry. Wilburn
Hartman of Bonaire, Harry Hartman of MiUedgevilie, James Hartman of
California and Mavis Wasdea of Macon: and four grandchildren.
Services: Will be held Wednesday, May 4, 1994 m the Central
Baptist Church at 4 pun. Burial will take place in the Magnolia Pst
Cemetery . The Res'. David Cochran will officiate, in hen of flowers the
family requests Aratimx be to the American Cancer Society, or to
the Hospice of Houston County. Christopher-Smith Funeral Home in
Warner Robins has charge of arrangements.
Hodges to speak at church
during Mother's Day service

Kathleen Hodges of Oconee, Ga.
will be special guest speaker at
Calvary Church on Mother's Day,
May 8. Calvary Church is located
at 30* Lee Street, Perry.
Hodges will be teaching oo The
King s Daughter" from Psalms 45
and The Virtuous Woman" from
Proverbs 31.
Calvary membership is pleased to
have Hodges as guest speaker, and

encourage seniors at Perry High
School and Westfield Academy to
celebrate graduation safely by not
drinking or riding with a drinking
driver.
Each senior signing the
S.A.D.D. 'Commencement
Commitment’ pledge will be given
a free Lane Keepsake Chest. These
chests have been popular graduation
gifts since 1929.
According to William F.

participation in this program is
evidence of a strong community
commitment to caring and saving

Jennings and Smith honored by Rotary
Perry Rotary Club President Skip Dawkins, center, recently congratulated two of the club's
charter members, Harold Jennings, left, and Gene Smith to their recent appointment as
Paul Harris Fellows by the local club. A Paul Harris Fellow is a Rotarian recognized for
contributions to Rotary International.
To Have and To Hold’ will be presented at PHS
Theatre Director Chris Giliespk
took one year to warm up as a first
year teacher at Perry High School.
Since then, there's been no
stopping him. In the last six years,
his program has brought home six
Region trophies and four Stale
Championships. In that time he
has also developed individual talents
thy at have earned the school
bragging rights for two Region
Best Actress awards, and three State
titles for Best Actor/Actress. Add
to that three Georgia, and three
Southeastern Threats Conference
All-Star Cast positions being
awarded to his performers, and you
can see in part why in 1990,
Gillespie was named "Best
Director" in the State for secondary
schools.
Chris Gillespie, a 1981 graduate
of Northside High School, (the Ray
Home School of Performing Arts)
majored in Theatre, and Education
at Wright State University in
Dayton, Ohio. Upon graduating he
relumed to Middle Georgia where
his parents resided, and where his
father served as Minister of the

Faith Lutheran Church. It was then
that Perry High Principal Phil
Smith gave this young man his
first Teaching Threcting position,
and neither has looked back since.
Gillespie, a performer in bis
own right, has been seen in many
productions here in the Mid-State.
He has also performed
professionally, and with
community theatres in New Jersey
and Ohio. Like his mentor Ray-
Home, several graduates of his
program have gone on to pursue
Theatre degrees in college. Like
graduating Senior Shiranda Mims,
who was recently aw arded a Theatre
scholarship to attend Valdosta State
University this Fall.
His current project, a full length
original musical entitled To Have
And To Hold", is an expansion of a
one act production the school
competed with in 1990. At that
time the show was unanimously
named Slate Champion, and went
on to represent Georgia at the 1991
Southeastern Theatre Conference in
North Carolina.
To Have And To Hold" is a
romantic musical comedy set at a
wedding filled with family and
friends, last minute jitters, real life

MGTI to offer two
computer classes
summer months
The continuing Education
Department of Middle Georgia
Technical Institute will be offering
two computer camps on June 20 to
June 24, 1994 and June 27-July 1.
Both camps are Monday through
Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The 15-hour Computer Camp is
ideal for middle schoolers, grades 6,
7 and 8. Parents and teachers
should encourage studenLs to take
this opportunity to learn valuable
skills this summer. The class will
cover basic computer keyboarding,
creating, deleting, inserting, saving,
and printing files.
Cost of the camp is S6B.
However, the first eight applicants
to pay the registration fee will
receive a SlO discount. Class size
is limited. Applicants may register
through June 15 from noon to 8
p.m., Monday through Thursday,
Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
