Information on different Bible translations
Have you tried to purchase a
Bible but didn't know which
translation to get? Choosing a
translation is perhaps one of the
most difficult and important
decisions you will make when it
comes to the Bible you read. Let
me share some thoughts about
different Bible translations.
King James Version. The
oldest and most used by people
today is still the King James
Version (KJV). Contrary to what
some say, it is not the original
Bible but is also a translation itself.
If you are not bothered by some of
the archaic words such as thee,
thou, wouldst, cometh, etc., then
the King James Version may be
good for you. Its poetic sound and
stately nature have made it a
favorite for many generations.
New King James Version.
My personal favorite is the New
King James Version (NKJV), and I
use this translation in the pulpit
every Sunday. It is an update of the
old KJV, and uses words like "you”
and "yours" instead of "thee" and
"thou." It is easy to read, and it
follows the wording we've come
accustomed to hearing from the
KJV.
New International
Version. One of the best
translations available according to
accuracy and readability is the New
International Version (NIV). It is a
modern work and has taken

When inspecting a restaurant,
Youmons explains that his depart
ment’s efforts are aimed toward
both protecting the consumer and
assisting food service management.
He also added that the
department’s grading system is
comparable to those used in local
schools with scores, in general,
ranging from 90-100 being
excellent, 80-89 being good and 70-
79 being satisfactory.
“We are educators as well as reg
ulators,” Youmons said. “Our goal
is to assist the food service industry
of our county to be the safest pos
sible.”
Youmons also pointed out that
all assessments made by local
health inspectors are made using
standards approved by the state as
well as local ordinances established
by the Houston Board of Health.
hind, according to Hayneville Bap
tist Church Pastor David Fisher,
one of Saturday’s event organizers.
“Mrs. Musselwhite’s family
came to us and asked if we could
host a benefit for her,” the Rev.
Fisher said Thursday afternoon.
“We checked into their situation and
saw that there was a need. All pro
ceeds from this function will be uti
lized by the church to pay medical
bills for Mrs. Musselwhite.”
Rev. Fisher added that as of
Thursday afternoon, some 400 tick
ets for barbecue plates had already
been sold. In advance, tickets are $4
and can be purchased at the Seeds of
Truth Christian Bookstore in Perry.
At the door, they will be $4.50.
advantage of more recent biblical
scholarship that was not available
to the writers of the KJV. The
discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls is
one example of the advantage
modern scholarship has over its
predecessors, and the NIV reflects
this new knowledge. The NIV was
translated by people across the
world (thus the name
"International"), and it is a solid,
excellent translation of God's word.
Good News Bible. Also
known as Today's English Version
(TEV), this translation's greatest
strength is its easy style of reading.
Words and phrases are written to be
understood easily without
compromising the integrity of the
translation. If you’re looking for a
Bible that reads as easily as a hot
knife cuts through butter, then this
one's for you.

Although not an actual translation,
The Living Bible (TLB) has proved
to be a favorite* of many. The
Living Bible is technically a
paraphrase instead of a translation,
but that does not make ut useless.
My only suggestion would be to
use The Living Bible alongside an
actual translation and not solely by
itself.
