Former Congressman Richard
Ray was honored by the City of
Byron at a program held in the By
ron Elementary School Building on
April 29.
Ray's portrait was unveiled, a
proclamation was issued and a
painting of peaches was presented
to Mrs. Barbara Ray, " Dixie Ex
press", the Command Band of the
Air Force Reserve at Robins AF
Base, furnished music throughout
the program. A telephone message
from Senator Sam Nunn, along
with well wishes and words of ap
preciation from a number of digni
taries expressed the sentiments of
the many friends gathered for the
occasion. Ray was given the Key
to the City by Byron's Mayor
James Williams. Perry's Mayor
Jim Worrall served as master of cer
emonies. A lovely reception fol
lowed the program
The next day, Byron celebrated
its 120th Anniversary with an
opening ceremony at the Depot .
Events, crafts and food booths were
located throughout the down town
Byron area.
