Governor Miller awards
HOPE grants to students
Governor Zell Miller has
recognized 558 Houston County
high school students, including 79
from Perry High School, for their
academic achievements. Each of
these students has earned a "B"
average through the first half of
their senior year, and provided they
graduate with that average, may be
eligible for a Helping Outstanding
Pupils Educationally (HOPE)
scholarship at any Georgia College
or University.
"I would like to congratulate
these Houston County students for
their academic excellence,"
Governor Miller said. "That kind
of hard work means something in
Georgia; because of the HOPE
Scholarship Program, these
students are already on their way to
a college education, tuition-free.”
"The HOPE scholarship program
is about rewarding hard work with
opportunity. We are saying to our
children, "The future is yours. Go
for it! If you are willing to study
and work, we will help you make
your dreams come true."
HOPE is Georgia's plan to
reward the academic excellence of
its high school students with a
tuition scholarship for any post
secondary public institution in the
state. A HOPE scholarship will
cover the costs of tuition,
mandatory fees, and provide a book
allowance for up to four years.at
any University System of Georgia
College or University. To be
eligible for a HOPE scholarship,
students must graduate from high
Allergy sufferers-help is available
Allergies got you down? When
you get up in the morning do you
wish you could stop sneezing at
least long enough to get ready for
work? Are you sick of taking anti
histamines?
Anti-histamines will help ease
your symptoms, but what about
something to help improve your
body's condition-a condition strong
enough to have no allergic
symptoms. What a concept.
That's what we're really after-not a
drug to control symptoms, but we
would like to improve the body's
immune system so it can win it’s
own battles against pollens, dust,
molds, etc. We want to have a
body that can enjoy spring without
being miserable with allergies.
Believe me-you don't have to have
them. It will take a little while to
get there but you can be free from
this misery.
The first thing we need to do is
to support the adrenal glands.
These are the stress glands, and
when functioning properly, they
combat allergens without the over
the-counter anti-histamines.
The adrenal glands need vitamin

school with a "B" average and must
have an annual family income of
less than S 100,000. In addition,
the scholarship may be renewed
provided the student maintains a
”B" average each year of college.
Students who pursue a diploma
or certificate at a technical
institution may have their tuition
paid by the HOPE program,
regardless of family income or grade
average. HOPE will also award a
52.000 a year Tuition Equalization
Grant for any eligible graduating
senior who attends a private college
in Georgia. The grant is renewable
for all four years of college,
regardless of family income,
provided the student maintains a
"B" average.
"When it was established less
than one year ago," Governor
Miller said, "no one could have
imagined the success it has achieved
during the past few months. But in
Georgia, right now, the HOPE
scholarship program is already
helping more than 50,000 of our
young people get the education and
training they need for the jobs of
tomorrow-jobs they can build a
future and a family on."
With Governor Miller's recent
expansion of the HOPE program,
95 percent of the families in
Georgia will be eligible to receive
Financial assistance to send their
children to Georgia colleges and
technical institutes. To date, the
program has benefitted 50,494
Georgians at public colleges, a total
of 515,246,091.88 in scholarships
to students in Georgia.

immune booster) and Pantothentic
Acid (B 5) to function properly.
Pantothentic Acid is sometimes
called the "stress vitamin" because
it feeds the stress glands.
Bee pollen can be very beneficial
for an allergic person. You can
start by taking a small amount (a
few granules) and increase your
dosage daily to help build
immunity to the allergens. This
will also increase your energy level
because it is loaded with vitamins,
minerals, and amino acids and it is
easily absorbed into the system.
There are other vitamins or herbs
you can take that will help you
build your immune system, so if
you have allergies you don't have to
throw in the towel. This is a
weakness that can be improved if
the right help is found.

Thus far, USS Comte De Grasse
has made port visits to Corfu,
Greece, Naples, Italy arid Augusta
Bay, Sicily. During their visit to a
small island off the coast of Corfu,
a group of sailors helped to restore
a bird sanctuary and also delivered
medical supplies, text books and
writing paper to the island's
children on behalf of Project
Handclasp.
Comte De Grasse's mission
follows the Navy's new strategy
entitled "...From the Sea," which
shifts the sea services' focus from a
global threat to regional challenges
and concentrates on near-land
warfare and maneuver.
Jason joined the Navy in
September 1993.
