Brown paces member-guest event with ace
Ken Biown easily had the closest
shot to the pin at the ninth hole at
Perry Country Club during a mem
ber-guest tournament. Brown pro
vided the highlight of the afternoon
with an ace to take the closest pin
honors.
Cater Pierce and Hal Lamb took
first place in the championship

and J.B. Goheen tied with Floyd
Gregory and Mac Harden for second.
Softball,

Jennifer McLaughlin, Casey
Vandergrift and Michelle Vest had
two safeties. Amanda Ramirez and
Heather McWhorter each picked up
one base rap.
Leading the Reds was Rosner,
who also shined at the plate with
four hits. Hillary Hegwood, Kalah
McCoy, Melissa McKinney and
Ashton Collins posted three hits
each.
Alicia Powell, Jessica Powell,
Lee Anne Sexton, Elizabeth Bullard
and Ashley Rodriguez collected two
safeties. Melissa Rodriguez, Kaitlin
Ellis and Margaret Boatright each
managed one base rap.
Yelton and Roper proved to be
just two of the defensive standouts
on the day.
Yelton, a second-year participant
representing First Family Finance,
made several key plays on the day,
including one remarkable out when
she stretched across foul territory
lying face down and still managed
to keep her foot on the bag to
record the out
Roper, a third-year player,
displayed several defensive gems,
including turning two unassisted
double plays and robbed Reds
hitters of at least two extra-base
hits.

leagues. I have a good friend who is
a fan of the Phillies because he
played for the Monroeville, Al.,
Little League Phillies. He's been a

second drew a tie, with Drew Las
seter and Mike Doles finishing in a
dead heat with Rick Slavik and Ken
Cross.
In the second flight, Robert
Spainhour and Wiltz Bernard beat
out John Shaginaw and Jim Shagi
naw for first. Three teams finished
in a tie for third, Danny Shelton
and Ron Howard, Jim Bohannon
and Joe Burkett, and Rodney
Bridges Jr. and Matt Mullis.

After playing for ABAC, Britsky
attended LaGrange, where she was
named to the all-conference team
both years, and was team M.V.P.
after her senior year.
Britsky chose Perry High School
over Troup County High School, a
AAA school in LaGrange.
Panthers set '94 football schedule
The Perry Panthers will open the
1994 football campaign on Sept. 2
with a home game against Jordan
High School in Columbus.
After playing Peach County on
the road, Sept. 9, the Panthers will
start the sub-region schedule with
Pike County in Zebulon.
The Panthers will play 10 games
in 1994, with the final eight games
on the schedule being against sub
region opponents.
The schedule has five home
games, and five away games. The
Panthers will meet new sub-region
foe Houston County Oct. 21 in
Warner Robins.
Perry will close their regular
season with a home game against
Harris County on Nov. 11.
The playoffs will start Nov. 18,
10-11 years old, the age most peo
ple start developing real loyalties to
teams.
There's a lot wrong with Major
League baseball; but, youth sports
using Major League nicknames is
not one of them. If nothing else,
youth leagues using Major League
names creates an affinity for the

recognize the basic fact that youth
leagues are the future of the sport,
both in terms of the future players
and future spectators. Yet, only Ma
jor League baseball is going after
youth sports to make them pay the
proper fees. The other sports are let
