A native of Thomas County, he is
a graduate of Coolidpe High School
(now consolidated with Thomas

wife, the former Velma Tryan of
Thomasville (also in Thomas

1945.
They have three children:
Kenneth, Linda and Ted.
Kenneth, a handsome bachelor and
graduate of Emerson College, is a
commercial artist in Boston.
Linda is Mrs. Allen Whipple, Jr

Taylor and Metts. She received her
degree in Nursing from Macon

August 1946.
He retired in 1987 after an inter

PEANUT BRITTLE
1 1/2 cups raw peanuts (small)
] 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup light Karo syrup (any
brand)
2 tablespoons water
1 1/2 tablespoons butter or oleo
(melted)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
First, measure everything and
have it ready before you start cook
ing.
Add measured water, sugar and
syrup in a 2-quart boiler; stainless
steel is better. Turn your stove on
high, start stirring and keep stirring
until the sugar is melted and begins
to boil. Continue to stir, but not
as briskly. Three to five minutes
after it begins to boil, lift up your
spoon full of syrup and let it drain
back into boiler. Do this until
syrup begins to spin. When the
syrup begins to spin, add peanuts
and stir briskly for a few minutes
until the syrup turns a medium
brown, add butter or oleo and salt.
Continue to stir and add baking
soda and stir over heat for a few
seconds, then spread thin on a bake
sheet or heavy duty aluminum foil.
Be sure and have a thin coat of but
ter or oleo on bake sheet. Let
candy harden and break up into
small pieces.
