Death notices
Frances Parker Jones
HAWKINSVILLE-Frances Parker Jones, 69, of Hawkinsville. died
Wednesday, July 27, 1994 in a local hospital. Bom in Houston County,
she was the daughter of the late Andrew Parker and Letha Henson Parker.
She was a retired civil service employee of Robins Air Force Base. She
was a member of Hayneville Assembly of God, where she was
secretary/treasurer for 30 years. She also was a former church school
teacher. Survivors: children, Brenda Jones Kinnas and Gary Jones,
both of Perry, and Wendy Thornton of Kathleen; a sister, Winie
McCormick of Hayneville; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: Will be held Saturday, July 30, 1994 in the Assembly of
God in Hayneville at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the Perry Memorial
Gardens. The Revs. Gene McKinney and Walter Martin will officiate.
The family may be contacted at the residence of Brenda Kinnas, 1410
Elizabeth Ave., Perry. The family requests donations be made to
Assembly of God of Hayneville, 281 Grovania Road, Hawkinsville 31036.
Coffman completes
‘94 recruit training
Marine Pvt. Christopher R.
Coffman, son of Arvel L. Coffman
and Lois M. Green, both of Perry,
recently completed recruit training
and was meritoriously promoted to
his present rank.
During the training cycle at
Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris
Island, S.C., recruits are taught the
basics of battlefield survival,
military daily routine and personal
and professional standards.
All recruits participate in an
active physical conditioning
program and gain proficiency in a
variety of military skills including
first aid, rifle marksmanship and
close order drill. Teamwork and
self-discipline are emphasized
throughout the cycle.
The Marine Corps has always
been an elite force of individuals,
and there will always be a need for
those individuals who are not only
tough, but smart. The Marine
Corps has more than 38,000
outstanding career opportunities for
qualified young men and women.
Wilson receives top
Navy Achievement
Navy Petty Officer Ist Class
Daivd Wilson, son of Gene and
Rosa M. Wilson of Perry recently
received the Navy Achievement
Medal.
Wilson was cited for superior
performance of duty while serving
as 3M Co-ordinator aboard the
destroyer tender USS Shenandoah,
homeported in Norfolk, Va. The
achievement medal singles out an
individual servicemember for his
initiative in making a significant
contribution to the accomplishment

Stephens, son of Patricia Stephens
of Perry recently graduated from
Operations Specialist School.
During the course at the Fleet
Combat Training Center Dam
Neck, Virginia Beach, Va., students
learn to operate surveillance and
search radars, recognize and identify
electronic signals, control aircraft
approach devices and operate
electronic navigation systems.
Studies are designed to prepare
operations specialists for duty in a
shipboard combat information
center or at a shore-based fleet
training center.
Stephens joined the Navy in
December 1993.
Smith returns from
Med. deployment
Navy Seaman Recruit Jason S.
Smith, son of James E. and Susan
E. Smith of Perry, recently returned
from a six-month Mediterranean
Sea deployment aboard the destroyer
USS Comte De Grasse, homeported
in Norfolk, Va., as part of the
aircraft carrier USS Saratoga Joint
Task Group.

Lion’s Club donates SSOO
to aid Perry disaster fund
The Perry Lion’s Club has made
a SSOO donation to aid the Perry
area disaster assistance effort
resulting from the aftermath of
hurricane storm Alberto.
The money was raised by a joint
effort of the members of the Perry
club through local project

forum for small businesses. It will
be held Tuesday, August 2 at 10
a.m., room 606 of the Legislative
Office Building across from the
State Capitol Building. Another
forum had been planned for Macon
on August 1, but was cancelled due
to conditions following the flood.
These forums are part of the
public hearings being held
throughout Geoigia to listen to the
concerns of small business owners.
In the fall, the University of
Georgia’s Small Business
Development Center will assist in
issuing a report on the condition of
small businesses in our state.
