The estimated SBOO,OOO in
emergency food stamps Department
of Family and Children Services
said would be distributed among
flood victims last week wasn’t that
far off the mark.
A total of 2,924 households
were on the receiving end of
$854,154 in stamps at day’s end
Saturday at the Georgia National
Fairgrounds.
That’s where DFCS workers set
up camp last Wednesday through
Saturday to assist those persons
affected by flood waters just over
three weeks ago. Only those
persons whose homes were
destroyed or experienced losses of
wages were eligible.
A surprising 2,435 of those
housenoias receiving tne stamps
were first time recipients, or at least
had not received monies from
DFCS in June or July.
