Adkinsons
gather for
reunion
BY PAULINE LEWIS
Staff Writer
The Adkinson family held a
weekend reunion July 29-31 in
Houston County.
About 150 Adkinson family
members, spouses and children
from Houston, Dooly and Peach
Counties, and other surrounding
Middle Georgia areas, and from as
far away as Ohio, New Jersey,
California, Florida and other areas
from all over our Country came.
The reunion began wlith a
reception at the Comfort Inn of
Perry on Friday evening. On
Saturday, the family united for a
family picnic at the Creekwood
Park,where Mayor Jim Worrall
welcomed them to Perry and issued
a proclamation to that effect.
A banquet for the family was
held Saturday night at Holiday Inn
of Warner Robins.
On Sunday morning and into the
afternoon, the Adkinson relatives
gathered for the morning worship
service at the Shiloh Baptist
Church at Henderson, where their
forefathers lived and worshipped.
Their first generation was Mary
Adkinson from Unadilla, bom in
1820, and William Adkinson, of
Houston County, bom in 1832.
This couple had six children.
The Adkiknson family gathered
at Quincy’s in Perry for lunch
before they departed for their
homes.
The Adkinson Reunion was
begin in 1970 in Houston and
Peach countlies. Since then, it has
been extended to Florida, New
Jersey and Ohio, with a network of
many family members throughout
the years..
This year’s reunion was planned
and carried out by three sisters:
Barbara Brown of Fort Valley,
Lossie Glover of Perry, and a sister
from Orlando who will plan the
reunion for 1996 to be held in
Orlando
Door prizes were given and the
“I love You” theme was carried
throughout the reunion.
Danny Perry directed the Youth
Choir in presenting special music.
Although “Adkinson” is the
accepted family name; however,
there are several variations on the
spelling, including “Adkins”.

“Pet of the Month”
My name is Missy I am a 10 & 1/2 year old Golden
Retriever. I belong to Kay and Bob Gale. I am spoiled
rotten. My hobbies are chasing cats, barking at the
garbagemen and running through water puddles! My
family and I take long walks everyday. I love to ride
in the car. We eat ice cream cones (my vet says I’m
overweight so don’t tell him). I have just had my bath
and grooming (now I’m even prettier) and have to go
home for my nap and to get these ridiculous bows out!
