Roley, from 6A
This was the first year as head
coach for Britsky, who played for
the national championship in col
lege. In that first year as head
coach, she instilled the desire to
win in the Panthers, something
Perry was missing the last three
years.
Last year, the Hornets played a
.500 regular season before making a
run at the sectional crown. This
year, Westfield struggled all year,
but improved as the season went
on.
Two of the teams that made the
G.I.S.A. AAA final four were in
the Hornets region, making it a
tough region for a young team, like
Westfield, to learn the game and
leam how to win. Yet, by the end
of the season, the Hornets were
playing with the top teams in the
state and providing respectable
competition.
Hospital, from 1A
$215,000.
The salary was a negotiated
settlement, according to Cotton,
which was agreed upon by both
McDannald and authority members.
"This (salary) was acceptable to
him, and to us," Cotton said,
adding that national salaries for the
position range from S2OO-5250,000
per year.
Cotton said despite what some
may think, patient costs will not be
increased to pay for the newly
created position— at least, not
directly.
"It may result in the increase of
operating costs, but not patient
costs," Cotton said. "That's not to
say that there may not be patient
costs increases due to other
factors..."

In the sectionals this year, the
Hornets made some early noise,
giving Deerfield its first loss on the
season before going down to
Tattnall, who won the sectional,
and Deerfield.
For Billy Sellers, this was his
first year at the Hornet helm. True
to his word, Westfield did not get
off to a great job. Also true to his
world, the Hornets improved con
sistently throughout the year.
After sweeping the season-open
ing tournament against teams much
like themselves, the Hornets lost
the eight games, playing Stratford
and Windsor and other such teams.
But, at the end of the season, the
Hornets could also play with the
Stratfords, the Deerfields and the
Windsors, taking two wins late
against the top teams in the state.
Both Sellers and Britsky accom-
already reaching all-time highs at
many wards across the country,
Cotton said the position is justified
due to a change of health care
policies.
"Health care will be changing in
the forthcoming years, and we've
got to try to provide the best
hospital care Uiat we have to the
people in Perry and Houston
County," he said.
Cotton did say that although
McDannald will oversee operations
at both county hospitals, day-to-day
administrative decisions will remain
in place.
Jim Peak, of Perry Hospital, and
Art Christie, of Houston Medical
Center, will continue in their
respective administrative posts.
McDannald will assume his
new position from an office at
Houston Medical Center on Nov. 1.

plished what they did without a lot
of hitting, which is very important
in softball. In softball, a good team
needs to hit around .500; the
Panthers and Hornets struggled
around .300.
It was a good year.

Ok Panther fans, I understand
this is basketball country. But, tip
off is still a few months away.
Meanwhile, your football team
is putting together a fairly good
year, winning four of five games so
far. However, that has not turned
into attendance at the games.
Jackson, for instance, brought
almost as many fans to the Panther
Pit Friday night as Perry did. And,
Jackson had over an hour drive.

is against Dodge County, home
coming. Game should be a crucial
game for in Region 3AA, with
both teams very much in the region
race, which is far from being over
with.
Hoops don't get started until late
November. Until then, come out
and see a game or two. You might
