Happy anniversary
Harlan and Frances Ratteree were married Nov. 5,
1939, and will be celebrated their 55th wedding an
niversary on Saturday, Nov. 5, 1994. The Ratterees
have one son, Wendell, and his family who live in Perry,
two living grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

members of Hayneville Primitive
Baptist Church, where Thomas
serves as a deacon. They have ten
children, 24 grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. They are retired
from Robins Air Force Base.

Warner Robins Little Theatre's
production of "The Homecoming"
opens Thursday. The play, based
on the same Earl Hamner book that
inspired the "The Waltons," runs
through Nov. 13. Four Perry Play
ers are in this play and we need to
give them our support.

Annual Family Tea on Sunday,
Nov. 13, 1994 at 3:30 p.m.

The Old-Old Timers' Dutch Treat
Luncheon (persons who worked at
Robins Air Force Base prior to
1950), was held at the Officers
Club at 1 p.m. on Oct 27. Those
attending were asked to bring their
RAFB work experience, when
started, where worked, when retired,
etc., and to bring old pictures. After
lunch, the group moved to the Mu
seum for a tour and briefing and
picture taking for the Museum dis
play. The next meeting will be held
on Jan. 26, 1995 at the same time
and same place. Jack H. Braucht,
101 Donald Drive, Warner Robins,

charge of these gatherings. Call
him if you plan to attend; he will
make reservations for the group.

ASCS secretary is honored
for 36 years of local service

Margilu Mims, secretary of the
Agricultural Stabilization and Con
servation Service (ASCS), was
honored Thursday night, Oct. 28,
for her 36 years of faithful service
to the farmers of Houston County.
A dinner, in her honor, and at
tended by many of those with
whom she had worked closely over
the years, gave them an opportunity
to say “thanks” for a job well
done.
Stewart Bloodworth and Fred
Langston, longtime associates of
Mims, spearheaded this affair.
Bloodworth gave a thumbnail
sketch of the organization’s history.
ASCS was begun in 1934. Houser
Gilbert joined in 1937 . Two
County Commissioners - Mr. Jerry
Davis and Mr. Lawrence Hunt were
active supporters. Hunt later be
came County Executive Director at
one time, he recalled.
Others recalled some of the ear
lier history and the vital assistance
which has been available to our
farmers.
Big steps have been made over
the years - changes in crop insur
ance, loans and training.
It was also recalled that Mims
had had a promotional opportunity
elsewhere, but she declined because

Margilu is the wife of Ray
Mims, retired educator and current
cartoonist for the Houston Times-
Journal.
They are active members of First
Baptist Church in Perry.
Ray and Margilu have two chil
dren—Ray Jr. of Atlanta, and
Robin Mims Wilson, who resides
in Titusville, Fla.with her family
which includes the Mims’ grand
son, Buddy Wilson.

go toward church mission projects.
