Teddy Bear Christmas Tea held by
the Perry United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women of
the Perry United Methodist Church
held a Teddy Bear Christmas Tea at
the church on Dec. 3, 1994. As the
members and their young guests
entered the sanctuary, they placed a
teddy bear on the altar. These 85
bears will be given to the Police
Department for use as they comfort
children who are in crisis.
A special part of this service is
the presentation of Baby
Memberships honoring children and
grandchildren of members. Peggy
Jeries presented these for Doris
Clay who had recently undergone
surgery.
The children honored were:
Richard Benjamin Walker,
Lawrence Cohen Walker, IV, Haley
Marie Gelow, Gray Allen Gelow,
Applications being accepted for artist teaching posts
The Artists-in-Education (AIE)
Program of the Georgia Council for
the Arts (GCA) will accept
applications from professional
artists wishing to teach in Georgia
schools and communities during the
1995-% school year.
Artists must be professionals in
their fields (music, dance, theater,
literature and visual arts), and must
submit information on a standard
application form, due January 30,
1995, with references and work
samples. Application packets will
be mailed upon request. For an
application, contact GCA at 404-
651-7920.
“Since we currently have a strong
roster in most disciplines ” said
AIE Program Director Cary
Cleaver, “at this deadline we are
hoping to fill specific needs. We
especially welcome applications
from artists of ethnically diverse
backgrounds or whose work
represents ethnic diversity, and
artists from rural areas of the state.”

For the program, Mrs. Bobbie

the children and ladies.
Applications are also sought to
balance the roster in the following
disciplines: media arts, music
(especially composition), and
creative writing. The disciplines of
visual arts and theater are strongly
represented on the current AIE
roster, and it is unlikely that many
artists will be added in these
disciplines unless they bring
cultural diversity to the roster,
including African-American, Native
American, Asian and Hispanic
backgrounds.
“Our goal is to create a balanced
roster of professional artists
interested in sharing their skills and
creative insights with students of
all ages throughout Georgia,”
Cleaver said. “By limiting the size
of the roster, we intend to provide
more training and technical

In search of the true celebration of Christmas
Christmas began with a
celebration as the angels sang on
the Judean hill, "Glory to God in
the highest, and on earth peace,
good will toward men," St. Luke
2:14. Who was that born to the
virgin Mary in the animal shelter,
wrapped in swaddling clothes and
laid in a manger? He was the
promised seed of the woman that
was to bruise the head of the devil:
Genesis 3:25. He was die promised
seed of Abraham through whom all
families of the earth would be
blessed: Genesis 12:3. He was the
promised sign of God coming to
dwell among men: Isaiah 7:14. He
was the promised Son of God who
would become die Prince of Peace:
"For unto us a child is bom, unto
us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon His
shoulder: and His name shall be
called Wonderful. Counsellor, the
mighty God, The everlasting
Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the
increase of His government and
peace theere shall be no end, upon

saving from sin. "For the Son of
man is come to seek and to save
that which was lost", St. Luke
writer used to experience Christmas
with overwhelming joy. Santa
Claus, fireworks, toys, fruit and
family was the highlight of the
whole year. However, it was not
until the Christmas past my
twenty-first birthday that I
celebrated Christmas with real joy;
because in October of that year, this
Christ saviour saved me. Now I
know the real joy of Christmas.
Did you know that heaven
celebrates every time a soul is
saved?: "I say unto you that
likewise joy shall be in heaven over
one sinner that, and there is joy in
die presence of the angels of God
over one sinner that repenteth”, St.
Luke 15;7, 10. I hope you know
die joy of forgiveness of sin. Only
after that joy, can you know the
real joy of Christmas.
Thought for the week: Joy is
spelled: lesus, Qdiers, Yourself.
In that order.
