Epilepsy, a disorder of the body’s
central nervous system, includes
more than 20 different types of
seizure disorders. It is not a
disease, mental illness, related to
insanity or a sign of low
ntelligence. All seizures are
caused by the same thing - a sudden
change in how the cells of the brain
send electrical signals to each other
- and may result from head injuries,
brain tumors, circulatory problems,
nerve damage or birth defects.
Anyone can develop recurring
seizures at any time. In fact, 50
percent of epileptics occur during
middle and late adulthood.

with epilepsy understand their
treatment options and lead active,
productive, normal lifestyles."
