AARP offers tax assistance
The Internal Revenue Service and
American Association of Retired
Persons co-sponsor Tax Couaseling
for the Elderly (TCE) TAX-AIDE.
TAX-AIDE is a community service
to provide free and confidential
assistance to older persons, and
others of low to moderate income,
in completing their tax returns.
TAX-AIDE is administered by
volunteers who receive a week's
training in Jannary. then help
others at the Houston County
Public Library, Washington Street
from Feb 2 through April 15 The
days of the week and times will be

When visiting an AARP Tax-
Aide. taxpayers should bring copies
of their previous year's tax returns
and forms for the current tax year,
including W-2s, 10995, and other
televant materials showing income
for the year. In addition, it is
important and helpful, to have last
year's return with you for reference
purposes
Earned Income Credit (EIC) rules
have changed from 1993.
Qualification for EIC has been
extended to include single taxpayers
between ages of 25 and 65 earning
less than $9000.00 a year. The
extra credit provided during 1993 for
a child bom during the tax year and
health insurannee credits are no
longer allowed.

tax assistance or participating in the

Book Club
The Wednesday Afrernoon Book
Club met in the Green Room of the
New Perry Hotel on Jan. 18, with
Mrs. Tommie Hunt, club president,
presiding.
After lunch, Mrs. Molly Moss
introduced Mrs. Becky Yeatman,
Houston County Library Child
Specialist, who gave an interesting
review of “Women Who Run With
the Wolves”, by Clarissa Estes,
psychologist and gifted story-teller.
This important book for our age
has been on the Best Seller List and
contains many stories illustrating
the strengths and weaknesses of
women today.
A short business session followed
the program and was concluded by a
lovely poem read by Mrs. Hunt,

Potpourri
young people last Sunday night, of
all denominations that came
together to worship and praise our
Lord and Savior and then experience
Him in life-changing ways. He
thanked the adults for giving of
their time and resources to help
make the night possible. Ten
Kiwanis Club members provided a
pancake breakfast from 6-81 a.m.
