Mardi Gras dinner dance planned
A Buffet Dinner Dance,
celebrating the New Orleans
tradition of Mardi Gras will be held
at Sacred Heart Parish Activity
Center on Saturday, Feb. 11, from
7 p.m. until 12 midnight. The
activity will be masquerading as
New Orleans.
Celebiants will be entertained
with music by The Grapevine.
Cost of tickets is $25.00 per
person, available ai the office of
Sacred Heart Parish or Sacred
Heart School.
Proceeds will benefit The
Presentation Sisters’ Retirement
Fund, and all donations are tax
deductible. The Presentation Sisters
have been coming from Ireland
every year since 1956 to teach at
Sacred Heart School.
A King and Queen of Mardi Gras
will be selected.
Other special events include “Fat
Tuesday” Chocolate Fantasy
Auction during which ten beautiful
and delicious chocolate creations
will be put up for auction during
the dance.
The buffet dinner includes:
seafood creole, jambalaya,
steamship round, muffulettas, red
beans and rice, sensation food,
French bread and assorted desserts,
including authentic New Orleans
King Cake.
Costumes are encouragesd; masks
will be available for sale at the door
for those not in costume.

Joe Gayle many faceted

Career- and interest-wise, Joe
Gayle is a many-faceted person.
There's Joe, the patriotic, good
citizen, civic leader and church
member; Joe, the heroic retired
Marine officer; Joe, the former
animal science instructor at the
University of Kentucky; former
manager of Malatchie Santa
Gertrudis cattle and pecan farm of
Perry; former owner of Gayle
Livestock Services; Joe, the antique
dealer and owner of Antiques from
The Shed; Joe, the restorer of
antiques and preserver of historic
landmarks; and Joe - husband
father, grandfather - and much
more!
He is married to vivacious
Connette. and they are dad and
mom to Joe, Jr., Currey, Debbie
and Dick. All four of these
children are married and have
presented their parents with eight
grandchildren.
Joe, Jr. and wife Sylvia are
parents to Joe and Ted; Currey and
Pat have Jennie and R.ob, Debbie
and Isaac Davis have Heather and
Chuck; and Dick and Melissa have
Christine and Connette. It's a
close-knit family.
In his role as cattleman Joe Gayle
served as President oi the Georgia
Cattlemen s Association in 1976
and 1977; was the State's first
President of Georgia's Beef Board,
and served 18 years as President of
the Board.
He was inducted into the Georgia
Cattlemen's Hall of Fame during
the Association's 29th Annual
Meeting, held in Columbus, Ga.
The citation on his plaque reads:
"In recognition of his outstanding
contribution in the cattle industry
of Georgia, Joe A. Gayle is hereby
inducted into the Georgia
Cattlemen's Association's Hall of
Fame, February 1, 1990.”
Joe Gayle of Perry was the power
behind the formation of the Georgia
Beef Board in 1976 and served all
these years, nevef missing a
meeting, concluding his presidency
at his last meeting on June 30,
1994.

Women’s Aglow Fellowship will
meet at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan.
28, at Holiday Inn, 2024 Watson

luncheon to follow meeting.

The purpose of the Georgia Beef
Board is to promote the beef
industry, and by pulling in all
facets of this industry, they moved
the beef industry to the
forefront. One of the promotions
includes the Georgia Beef Cook-Off
on beef menus and recipes, headed
by lay cattlewomen assisted by
Danelle Amstein of the Cattlemen's
Association in the Beef Board
Office on Cattlemen's Drive in
Macon. Joe Gayle was honored
with a luncheon at the Cattlemen's
Association Office Building at the
conclusion of the June meeting.
He was given a plaque, a scrapbook
on the history of the Georgia Beef
Board, letters from officials of the
State and National levels, and was
made a Lifetime Honorary Director
of the Board.
During his presidency of the
Georgia Beef Board, Gayle
represented Georgia on the Beef
Industry Council at National
Livestock and Meat Board until
Marshallville Rd. in Perry.
