Dining at Langston House
is first class all the way
Observations on our Langston
House 1838 practice run. I
likened it to being in First Class
on Delta enroute to Europe; only
this time I was being served! and
we never got off the ground.
Also. I was seated across the
table from Ralph in the soft light
of a small oil lantern. You can't
do that on Delta
Manager David Dew was our
captain and our flight attendants
were Christy Pace. Shannon
Kennedy and Mandy Mason, all
former schoolmates of our son.
Rad. and several other young
people who were every bit as
eager to please as I was in my
Delta job It was a dining experi
ence that we enjoyed immensely.
Langston House 1838 became
the home of Ike Madison
Langston when he moved his
family from Monticello in Jasper
County to farm. His son, Fred
Langston was five years old at
the time. Fred Langston grew up
in the house, married and lived on
the lop floor until Fred Langston
Jr. was five and they moved to
farm the Ke/ar land. The
Langston family sold it to John
Hooker who owned it for twelve
or so years and sold it to
Bernhard Schneider for
Henderson Village.
Langston House 1838 is a very
special restaurant, perfect for
memorable occasions.
Gentlemen, you would do well to
phone 988-8696 today and make
your reservations for your wed
ding anniversary dinner.
We in Perry are fortunate to
have such a pleasantry nearby.
However, those traveling have it
even better in the Henderson
Village accommodations we
toured escorted by Assistant
Manager. Brent Wieschhorster,
before we dined. There are about
25 rooms in the charming nearby
houses and cottages that have
been renovated under the aus
pices of Chip Shelton. The
Warren Hodge house with its for
mal garden and the Dolly
Newberry house (still under reno
vation) were found in place on
the Henderson Village property
and the Frank Holland house was
moved from Perry and the Wynne
house from Unadilla. All are
beautifully decorated with period
pieces and the very latest in
sumptuous linen furnishings to
the plush white terry robes. The
spacious grounds have been land
scaped with brick walkways and
large trees and plantings by Joe
Gayle. Jr. and his son and with
some rain will flourish. A swim
ming pool and bathhouse are
under construction. A hunting
preserve of ten thousand acres is

A large crowd of children turned
out recently for a puppet show featur
ing a retelling of an old favorite -
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The show, conducted by library
staff, starred four comical puppets,
who kept the children laughing
Afterward a number of kids crowded
around the puppet theater to get a clos
er view of the stars of the show
The show was part of the Library 's
Summer Reading Club for kids, which
is designed to encourage reading lor
pleasure throughout the summer vaca
tion Currently over 400 children are
registered for the program.
