During their two weeks there,
they experienced the Protect the
Turtle program. Every evening at
nine drapes must be drawn so the
turtles will lay their eggs in the
sand and not try to go toward the
lights. They come back every
year to lay their eggs in the very
place they were bom. There is
always the one invalid turtle with
only one flipper that cannot make
it up onto the sand and the Turtle
Patrol moved closer to the brush
her 106 eggs, all the size of ping
pong balls.
When the baby turtles are
hatched they need to go toward
the light of the moon or reflection
on the horizon, and so the black
out goes on all summer. It all
reminded Marcia of the World
War II blackouts when the air
raid wardens would come around
to check for light.
Congratulations to Bruce and
Betty Douglas on their marriage
the evening of June 18 on the
front porch of Bruce’s country
home on Gilbert Road. An after
noon shower had left a cool
breeze for the gathering of sup
portive family and friends, and a
beautiful rainbow appeared as
the ceremony ended as if to bless
the occasion.
Following a honeymoon trip

the couple are at home with their
