Obituaries
Dr. Waldo W.E. Blanchet
Memorial services for Dr.
Waldo W.E. Blanchet, former
president of Fort Valley State
College, will be held July 22,
1998. at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the
Evangelist Catholic Church, 230
Arnold St., Hapcvillc, Ga.
At the age of 22, Blanchet
came to Fort Valley after having
completed his undergraduate
work at the University of
Michigan. The young scientist
fulfilled his first love of being in
the classroom as a science teacher
from 1932-1935 at the Fort Valley
Normal and Industrial School and
academic director (dean) 1936-
38. He served as professor of
physical science from 1939 to
1966 and succeeded C.V. Troup as
president of Fort Valley State
College. 1966-73.
Bom in New Orleans, La., he
received his undergraduate degree
from Talladega College in 1931,
master of science degree from the
University of Michigan in 1936
and a Ph.D. from the University
of Michigan in 1946.
Survivors include his wife,
Josephine Lavizzo Blanchet and
two children. Geri Therese
Blanche! and Waldo W.E.
Blanchet Jr.
Virgil L. Cosey
Memorial services for Virgil L.
Cosey. 91, who died July 1, 1998.
will be announced at a later date.
The services will be held in
Milledgeville.
He was a native of Georgia and
was preceded in death by his son,
Virgil L. Cose. Jr., a U.S. Air
Force pilot who was killed in
1953. He was employed by
Central of Georgia Railroad and
Southern Railroad, and retired in
1972 after 44 years of service. He
was a long time resident of
Macon. After retirement he and

Residents of Perry will be
hearing the roar and rumbling of
engines overhead Sept. 19 as a
group of F/A 18 Hornet aircraft
use air space over the Perry-
Houston County Airport for prac
tice, according to airport Fixed
Base Operator Stacy Willis.
The Blue Angels will be fea
tured during the Air Show set
Sept. 20 and 21 at Robins Air
Force Base and are scheduled to
use the Perry airport for practice
about four hours Sept. 19, Willis
said during the July meeting of
the Pcrry-Houslon County Airport
Authority.
"We will be closing the airport
for a few hours that day,” he
added.
However, residents are wel
come to come out and watch the
practice, along with a number of
aviators that are expected to fly in
to the facility, said Willis.
Registration for fall semester
at Macon State begins

for fall semester classes at Macon
State College is now under way.
Fall classes begin earlier this year
Aug. 24 due to the
University System-wide conver
sion to the semester system.
Classes end Dec. 9.
Macon State offers bachelor’s
degree programs in health infor
mation management, health ser
vices administration and informa
tion technology, plus two-year
transfer and career programs in
more than 50 majors, including
business administration, psychol
ogy, education, computer science,
English, sociology and pre-engi
neering and allied health pro
grams such as nursing, dental
hygiene, health information tech
nology and respiratory therapy.
Day and evening classes are
scheduled at three Macon State
College locations: the main cam
pus at 1-475 and Eisenhower
Parkway, the Robins Resident
Center at Robins Air Force Base,
and the Warner Robins Campus
in the Advanced Technology Park
off Houston lake Boulevard.

Causey Cosey; one daughter,
Bettyann Murfin of Rio Rancho,
N.m. and W. Clay Hickey of
Bozeman, Mont.; one sister, Vela
Hancock of Macon; two brothers,
Howard Cosey of Perry and
Bernard Cosey of St. George’s
Island, Fla.; and five great grand
children.
Ruth Wise Echols
MARSHALLVILLE
Services for Ruth Wise Echols,
95, who died July 16, 1998, were
held July 18 at the Harmony
Baptist Church with burial in the
church cemetery.
A native of Banks County, she
was the daughter of the late John
T. and Idella Smith Wise and was
preceded in death by her husband,
John Arthur Echols. She was a
member of the Quitman First
Baptist Church where she taught
Sunday School for many years.
She retired after 40 years service
as a bookkeeper with Quitman
Bank
Survivors include her daughter,
Marian Stubbs of Perry; son, John
A. Echols of Milton, Fla.; three
sisters, Faye Dalton of Baldwin
and Pauline Mize and Edith King,
both of Greenville, S.C.; six
grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren.

Ruth Wilder Harbuck
Services for Ruth Wilder
Harbuck, 84, who died July 18,
1998, were held at graveside July
20, 1998 at Enterprise Baptist
Church Cemetery in Webster
County with the Rev. Glenn
Spivey officiating.
She was the daughter of the

are expected to land at the Perry
facility, said Willis.

Yarborough named

Mark Yarborough has been
named general manager of the
Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill
and Bar, which will open during
mid-August at 100 Valley Drive,
Perry.

years. She was preceded in death
by a son, Rainey V. Davis and a

Agent; widow of Murrell
Montgomery and a Baptist.

Club, and First Baptist Church of
Perry. She was the widow of
Wilmer L. Peavy.
