Billy Wayne Davee
Billy Wavnc Davee, 67, of 311
Culpepper Road, Perry, died Jan.
15 , hisTiome.
Memorial services were held at
Watson-Hunt Chapel Jan. 17 at 4
p.m., with the Rev. Sidney
McLeod officiating.
A native of Goldthwaite, Texas,
Mr. Davee had lived here sijfce
‘%3. He was the founder of
Davees Hardwood Lumber Co.,
and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Ile was retired from Hughes
Aircraft, where he was an electrical
engineer for 33 years.
Survivors include his wife,
Martha S. Pentico Davee of Perry;
a daughter, Pamela J. Conner of
Melbourne, Fla.; a son, Bryan W.
Davee of Perry; his father, Clyde
L. Davee of Perry; a brother,
Donald D. Davee of Warren,
Oregon; two sisters, Betty S. Ezell
of Fort Worth, Texas, and Caralyn
Watkins of Irving Texas, and three
grandchildren.
The family suggests contribu
tions to Hospice of Houston
County.

Linda R. Hardy
Linda R. Hardy, 46, of Warner
Robins, died Jan. 18, 1999 at the
Houston Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at
McCullough Funerai Home in
Warner Robins at 2 p.m., Jan. 21,
with the burial in Parkway
Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to
9 p.m., Jan. 20, at the McCullough
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hardy was a member of
the Women of the Moose and a
Baptist. She was a former employ
ee of the Waffle House. A native of
Orlando, Fla., she had lived in
Warner Robins since 1966. She
was the widow of Charles Allen

Heinz eventually gave into the
demands and put the gun down.

Lee Butler Jones, 76, of 205
Lake Joy Road, Perry, died Jan. 13,
1999, at his home.
Funeral services were at Sandy
Valley Baptist Churdfjan. 16 at 2
p.m., with burial with full military
honors at the Woodlawn
Cemetery. The Morrow,
and the Rev. Jimmy Daniels offici
ated.
Mr. Jones, a native of Dooly
County, had lived here for 31 years.
He was a retired Air Force techni
cal sergeant, and meat market
manager at the commissary.
He was the widower of Arliss
Johns Jones, a member of the
American Legion, the American
Association of Retired Persons and
the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.
He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his daughters
and sons, Betty Anne Dean,
Nancie Trailer and Chuck Jones, all
of Perry; Philip B. Jones of
Charleston, S.C., Rave Jones of
Kathleen; his sisters, Irene Wood
of Perry, Dorothy Kaylor of
Hayneville and Essie Jones of
Unadilla; 14 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations to Hospice
Care Options, P.O. Box 7232,
when Heinz started rolling up the
window of the car and reaching
for the gun. Brack opened the car
door and saw Heinz had the gun
in his hand pointing to the offnftt.
Brack fired one shot which striirK
Heinz in the hand.
Heinz was taken from the

Robbie Calhoun Lewis
Robbie Calhoun Lewis, 67, of
830 Ga. 26 East, Elko, died Jan.
14, 1999, at the Taylor Regional
Hospital in Hawkinsville.
Funeral services were at Double
Branch Freewill Baptist Church
Jan. 16 at 4 p.m., with Dr. Jerry
Jarrell officiating. Burial was in the
Elko Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Houston
County, Mrs. Lewis was a retired
secretary with the Houston
County Cooperative Extension
Service. She was a member of the
Double Branch Freewill Baptist
Church and a former member of
the Unadilla United Methodist
Church, where she was a Sunday •
School teacher and choir member.
She was the widow of Clifford
Lewis.
Survivors include her daughters,
Kathy Jennings of Seminole, Fla.,
and Peggy Lewis of Safety Harbor,
Fla.; sons, Tim Lewis of Elko and
Wayne Lewis of Birmingham,
Ala.; and two grandchildren.

Winton Leroy Pockrandt

Leßoy Pockrandt, 77, of 717
Thursday School Road, died Jan .
17 at the Riverside Nursing Care
Center.
Funeral services will be at 3
p.m., Jan. 20, at the Chapel of
Coggins Funeral Home in
Thomaston, with burial in the
Hendricks Baptist Church
Cemetery. The Rev. Wesley Hunt
and the Rev. Don Coogler will
officiate.
Mr. Pockrandt, a native of
Minnesota, was a long time resi
dent of Upson County. He served
in the U.S. Navy and later worked
scene to an area hospital where his
condition was listed late Jan. 19 as
stable.
According to Georgia State
Patrol Spokesman Gordy Wright,
“He was drinking beer in the car
during the standoff. Blood tests
will be done to find out what his
blood-alcohol level was.”
No drugs were found when the
car was searched after the inci
dent.
Potter said, “All of the officers
out there did an excellent job. We
got them in and out of town real
quick.”
Dooly County Sheriff Van
Peavy said “Stop-Sticks are the
best tool that we have for stopping
a chase.”
Officials said Jan. 19 that when
Heinz recovers enough to leave
the hospital, he will travel to
Vienna to face Dooly County
charges first. He also faces charges
in Michigan from an altercation
with his wife.
Jennifer Dawson of Perry, who
was stopped at the intersection of
U.S. 41 and Perry Parkway said, “I
had just passed the new middle
school when I saw a man in a
maroon car driving pretty fast. It
looked like he had a flat tire. He
went right past me and he was fol
lowed by about 20 police cars with
their lights on.”

Joan Aures Stinson, 67, of 1005
Fourth St., Apt. A, Perry, died Jan.
14 at the Warner Robins
Rehabilitation and Nursing
Center.
Funeral services were held at
Tharpe Memorial Baptist Church
at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17, with the Rev.
Condred Pirkle officiating. Burial
was in the Perry Memorial
Gardens.
A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs,
Stinson had lived here since 1987.
She was a retired room attendant
and a member of Tharpe
Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter,
Kathy A. Simmons of Perry; two
sisters and a brother, Jean Scherer,
Dorothy Williams and Ray Aures,
all of Buffalo, and three grandchil
dren.

told not to go any farther. They
had all these police cars in the

Perry Police were also involved
in chase situation Jan. 15. Peach
County deputies began chasing
David Dean in a 1999 Dodge
Stratus rental car. Dean refused to
stop and led officers into Houston
County.
Dean entered Perry on Sam
Nunn Boulevard and lost control
of his car when he attempted to
make a left turn onto Smith Drive
at the Perry Marketplace. He then
crashed and ended the pursuit.
A passenger in the car got away
on foot and was not caught.
When the car was searched a
large amount of drugs were found.
The car, drugs and Dean were
released to Peach County.
