DRANEVILLE Perry’s Ladv Panthers fell Friday night to region
rival Tri-County 56-33 after the tagles lunged ahead in the first five
minutes of the game with a 12 point run.
Akenia Davis, a sophomore, played her first full game for the
Panthers. Davis replaced starter Krystal Brown, who was injured last
week and has not been released by her doctor.
Coach Max Vickers was visibly disappointed in the loss but still had
many positive things to say about his team.
“We play hard the whole time. We made some mistakes, but you are
going to make mistakes. We are not just getting it in the basket," he
said.
The Lady Panthers must beat both their region opponents this week
to keep their third place spot in the playoffs that begin on Feb. 8 at
Dodge County in Eastman.

MACON —The Stratford Lady Eagles hit
on all cylinders here Jan. 26 as they pounded
the Lady Hornets to the tune of 77-29 in what
coach Billy Sellers admitted was “the most
lopsided loss in my five years here at Westfield.
“When we tried to stop their inside game,
they hit us with the ‘threes’”, Sellers said.
Stratford scored 34 baskets, including four
three-pointers, while allowing Westfield just
four baskets in the first half and six in the last.

Hornet loss affects
GISA region standings
By PHIL CLARK

The Westfield Lady Hornets
could have locked up third place
in the region 1-AAA standings
with a win here Jan 29 over
Mount de Sales.
Instead, the Cavaliers forged
into a virtual tie for the spot with
a 52-44 win.
Jessie Rosa and Kelly Wall
each scored 14 points to offset a
17-point effort by Westfield’s
Lina Arnold.
Barring something unforeseen,
the two teams will end up in a tic
for third and fourth in the final
region standings, but both will
qualify for the state playoffs, with
the region tournament amount
ing to nothing more that estab

tournament a week later.

off an offensive rebound, and
retook the lead on a Brannen free
throw and Will Holt basket off
another offensive rebound.
The Hornets scored 21 in the
fourth quarter while limiting the
Eagles to just 12, including two
desperation three-pointers. When
Baymes hit a three-point goal late
in the quarter, Westfield’s Kory
son. Cotton scored 24 for Stratford, 12 in each
half. Earlier, in a game at Perry, Cotton broke
open a close game by scoring 14 points in the
third quarter.
Lauren Hollman was the early culprit for
the Lady Eagles, hitting two three-pointers in
the first quarter as Westfield tried to keep the
ball away from Cotton and Kate Sams inside.
Cotton picked up the pace in the second
with 10 points, while Iris Arnold hit from
three point range.
The Lady Hornets, meanwhile, could man

at the end of three quarters, both
teams ignited the offensive fire

Southland’s bench was equal to
the task, though, as Layne

and Paige Jeter and Jennifer
Baker each scored six points for
five different players in taking a
9-5 first quarter lead despite. The
Lady Hornets got the offense

The Cavaliers’ Sarah Mead
took care of the lead, though, hit

Mount de Sales the lead for good.
The Lady Hornets, trailing
36-29 at the end of three, cut the
